Cakes, Beer, & Spice Girls, Oh My! Here Are the Latest Royal Wedding Updates

Dum dum da dum! Dum dum da dum!

With the upcoming royal wedding, you may be wondering a few things. What kind of cake are they having, who’s going, and how much will this thing cost? Here’s everything we know about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day!

1. The Cake

Meghan and Harry are straying away from the traditional fruitcake for their wedding and instead chose to go with a lemon elderflower cake covered in buttercream and topped with fresh flowers. Mmm!

And who gets the privilege of creating such a masterpiece? Why none other than California-raised Claire Ptak. Claire met Markle when she was interviewed for the actress’s website. Ptak has her own bakery in London, Violet Cakes, where she is known to use “seasonal and organic seasonings” in her desserts.

2. The Beer

The Windsor & Eton Brewery is working on a brand new beer to congratulate the happy couple on their marriage. The pale-ale will be a blend of British and American hops and will be named Harry & Meghan’s Windsor Knot. On March 28th, head on over to the Royal Farm Shop in Windsor to throw back a cold one. Don’t worry, the drink will also be available on drafts in different London pubs before the wedding.

3. The Venue

The royal wedding will be held at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Harry and William basically grew up there at the Queen’s home so Harry chose this location to honor his grandmother. The couple were engaged in November and plan to marry on May 19th at noon. Why such a quick engagement? Well, Harry wanted a spring date to ensure his grandfather, Prince Philip, would be able to attend.

4. The Guest List

Meghan and Harry have expressed that they would like a small and intimate wedding. St. George’s Chapel can fit up to 800 guests. That’s nothing compared to William and Kate’s headcount of 1,900 and doesn’t even come close to Charles and Diana’s 1981 wedding that housed over 3,500 guests.

You can expect to see Markle’s castmates from her show “Suits” as well as the Spice Girls! Of course, you’ll see most of the royal family like William, Kate, and their three children (the third is due any day now!). However, you may not see the Queen at the ceremony. HRH doesn’t believe in divorce (Meghan divorced her ex-husband in 2013) and therefore may not attend. This is not unusual for the family. In 2005, the Queen didn’t go to Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles wedding but did show up for the reception.

5. The Price Tag

Bridebook came out with their predictions on what the royal wedding may cost. Here are just some of the expenses:

Catering & Drinks — £479,000 ($680,000)

Cake — £50,000 ($70,700)

Stationary — £20,000 ($30,000)

Music & Entertainment — £355,000 ($500,000)

Decor & Production — £240,000 ($340,000)

Wedding Rings — £6,000 ($8,500)

Toilets — £35,000 ($50,000)

Honeymoon — £120,000 ($170,000)

Groomswear — £8,000 ($12,000)

Dress — £300,000 ($425,000)

Security — £30 million ($42 million)

Well, at least we can all breathe a sigh a relief for the Markle family since Kensington Palace is paying for the shindig despite the tradition of the bride’s family taking care of the costs.

Tallying up the total estimated cost of everything, you can expect the final bill to be around $2,800,000 (not counting security). That’s more than 100 times the average U.K. wedding!

Congratulations to the happy couple!
