Even if this product wasn’t a staple in your home, you could probably recite the commercials by heart. Sunny Delight, now known solely by its nickname of SunnyD, made kids everywhere wary of the “purple stuff” in ads that seemed to air during every Nickelodeon commercial break. The brand is fortunately still around, and they’re trying hard to show kids today that SunnyD is still vital during those active teen years. How? Well, with a brand new campaign, of course.
Today’s target market for SunnyD includes kids aged 13 to 18. In order to impress, SunnyD created a new logo, tagline, and line of ads. They don’t feature kids rooting around a fridge like the ’90s commercials, but they encourage today’s youth to “drink to your own beat.”
In the commercial, which SunnyD posted on Facebook, a variety of different kids are shown doing their own thing, from building robots to doing high kicks in the school hallway.
The brand also knows that music is important, and reportedly hired on DJ Kass to create a background beat. You might know DJ Kass best from the hit “Scooby Doo Pa Pa,” which went viral on YouTube.
The catchy ad will remind you to be #BoldlyOriginal. According to the company, it’s a mantra they’ve always believed in — even back in the Sunny Delight days. “From the start, we’ve never settled for ordinary. We’ve carved our own path and created a flavor that’s unique!” they stated on Facebook.
No matter what, everyone’s cheering for SunnyD to add some positive change to a new generation. Let’s just hope the Gen Z refrigerators of today are void of any of that questionable purple stuff.
