This Mom’s Target Receipt From The ’90s Will Make You So Nostalgic

Digital receipts have saved a ton of paper, and have diminished clutter, but admit it — they’re just not as fun. Reason being, a receipt is almost like a diary entry of what happened that day. Especially if it’s at a store that’s not a grocery store and purchases can get a little redundant. In the Target subreddit, a user named The_Boy_Brushed_Red revealed an old receipthe found hiding in an old desk, and it’ll inspire you to go on your own receipt treasure hunt around the house.

The 25-year-old receipt was from a shopping trip that took place on June 14th, 1994. Let’s just say, the world was a different place back then. Target’s slogan was apparently “Guest Service Is Job One,” and root beer only cost 69 cents. Those were the days.

Jurassic Park was also still a big hit. The movie, which was released in theaters a year earlier almost to the date, was selling a bunch of merchandise. The_Boy_Brushed_Red’s mom, like many parents, couldn’t say no to it.

But the strangest part of all? This order was paid for using a check, which is such a rarity these days. Just imagine how long it must have taken to end the transaction.

It was hard for the Target community not to poke fun at how old the receipt actually was. In fact, it predates many Target employees today.

Even sweeter, the Jurassic Park merch was part of the original poster’s birthday present. Uncovering this receipt must have brought some of those fuzzy moments back.

One Redditor made a very important discovery — this was well before Target unleashed one of their best products for frequent shoppers.

Indeed, this was well before Target had any cards. Their first card program actually launched in 1995, and it was known as the Target Guest Card. That same year, Target opened their very first SuperTarget, which included a grocery section. The first Target Gift card arrived the same year as the notorious Target bullseye dog — 1999.

The RedCard actually made its debut in 2015. So, it’s a shame that The_Boy_Brushed_Red’s mom, back then, wasn’t able to save 10 percent on her merchandise.

Cartwheel also wasn’t around back then, but neither were apps in general.

In fact, Target back then was nothing like it is today.

But hey — at least it supported the Jurassic Parkfranchise.

Next time you buy toys, DVDs, or anything special, you might want to ask for a paper receipt so that you can reflect on it decades into the future. It’s the next best thing to starting your very own time capsule.
