This Popular Kids Food Was Just Recalled Because It Contains… Wood

Even before my husband and I had a kid, we had “kid dinner.” Typically, once a week, it was an easy cooking night with Annie’s Mac and Cheese and a plate of chicken nuggets, often with multiple dips. Sure, it’s not the healthiest thing in the world — but it’s food, and it’s food you can make fairly quickly. When my daughter came along, “kid dinner” lived up to its name. It became something that she’d likely eat without hesitation once solids were allowed. She’s a fussy eater now, but she, like many toddlers out there, has had her fair share of chicken nuggets before. And that’s why people ought to listen to this important news from Perdue.

The popular chicken company just recalled roughly 68,000 pounds of nuggets, but for a really strange reason. They felt like they might be contaminated with wood, which, WTF. At least three people so far found wood within their nuggets, in a batch that has shipped nationwide. So, you may want to check your freezer right now before dinnertime.

So far, the wood was found in the now-recalled 22-ounce bags of Perdue SimplySmart Organics Gluten-Free Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets. According to Delish, the bags were produced on October 25th, 2018 with a best-by date of a full year later. In other words, these could have been sitting in your freezer for a few weeks.

Even though it’s an important recall, it’s still a bit strange. Thus, people didn’t hesitate to make jokes on Twitter right after the story came out.

As of right now, nobody’s reported a sickness or a death due to the wood. But people are still on high alert, and Perdue is doing a lot of damage control on Twitter.

All joking aside, you might want to toss your bag or contact Perdue directly if you bought one of the bags. But if you’re looking for answers as to how the wood ended up in there, well, they’re not totally sure either…

But here’s some good news. It seems like an isolated incident, and plenty of other companies sell chicken nuggets if you or your kids have a craving.

And hey — there’s always McNuggets. Who can say no to those?
