By now, you’re well aware of the fact that the royal family is fond of tradition. There are certain things that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can’t do, and there particular events at which their attendance is expected. But if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taught us anything throughout their courtship, it’s that some rules were meant to be broken.
Markle, known best for being an actress prior to hitting it off with Prince Harry, has taken the time to learn proper royal etiquette, making sure to do her best to keep the Queen happy. She’s avoided certain foods at her request, and has even changed her wardrobe to better reflect both the Queen and her title of the Duchess of Sussex. But there are certain things about her new family that she’s not totally on board with. For one, the annual Boxing Day pheasant shoot.
The Daily Mail first reported that Prince Harry is choosing not to attend this year as he knows it upsets Markle, who is against hunting. And from the sounds of it, the pheasant shoot is an intense event. The Daily Mail has also reported on it from prior years and has mentioned that up to 500 birds are allowed to be shot.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wouldn’t be the first royal couple to miss the event. In 2016, Prince William and Kate Middleton skipped out for another event. It’s not the end of the world, but Prince Harry has been there since he’s been 12. Also, many outlets are reporting that Markle has straight-up banned her husband from the event. But according to the Palace, this isn’t true.
Markle is likely upset by the tradition due to her own love of animals. She’s eaten a vegan diet in the past, and has also expressed her appreciation towards them in countless interviews. She also refuses to buy her pets, opting to rescue them at shelters instead.

In 2018, PETA even referred to her as “vegan fashion royalty.”
So, it makes sense why she’d be upset that this tradition continues to exist. While Prince Harry is out this year, it’s unclear as to whether or not the event has been permanently canceled from his social calendar in the future.
Even though it seems like a step in the right direction, plenty of fans are, for some reason, outraged that Markle’s feelings on the shoot are influencing Prince Harry’s decision.
She knew what she was getting in to when they were married.

She should realise she is not as important as she thinks she is.
She should have done her research more about joining the firm and I see her as an opportunist , and who is in charge the Queen , isn't that what she wanted so don't complain now .

But, isn’t it common to stand by and support your husband or wife if they feel deeply about something?
Have no fear, Markle also had plenty of supporters who are applauding her for speaking up.
She's gone right up in my estimation. No fur wearing and trying to stop outdated animal cruelty by a bunch of toffs idiotically shooting anything that moves. Good luck to her trying to drag that lot in to the modern world.

I believe with any couple there is give and take Meghan doesn't like that sport Harry respects that. Meghan has had to also change so much about her for Harry. All i see is a healthy relationship.

Of course, opinions are varied on the issue. As the years go by, more and more people recognize that it’s hard to justify hunting animals for sport, instead of survival. Each year, plenty of birds are killed during the hunt that would have lived otherwise.
But one thing’s not up for debate. Markle’s relationship with the Prince is seriously stronger than ever, and just because he chooses to listen to his wife — a massive sign of love and respect — doesn’t mean he’s suddenly incapable of making his own decisions.
For one, just look at the love in their Christmas card this year. It features a new wedding photo from their May reception.
Even without seeing their facial expressions, you can tell how much chemistry they have. But speaking of which, the way they look at each other should tell you everything you need to know.
No matter what, Prince Harry wins points for supporting his wife and showing he’s on the same page. And as for Markle, kudos on speaking up. It can be scary to try to change tradition, but she’s a strong woman who will always stand up for what she believes in.
