Optical Illusion Cake
1. Build Cake & Frost20 minutes
Build the cake with your cooled cake layers and about 3-4 cups of buttercream. Try to make the top and the sides as smooth as possible.
2. Dye Frosting5-10 minutes
Load the vanilla and chocolate buttercream into separate piping bags or Ziploc bags fitted with the piping tips.
3. Pipe15-20 minutes
Starting with the chocolate buttercream, pipe a dot about the size of a nickel on the bottom seam of the cake and drag the piping tip to the right to create a smear. Pipe a dot of the vanilla buttercream overlapping the smeared part of the chocolate buttercream, then repeat the process all the way around the cake. Once you finish the bottom row, pipe another dot of chocolate buttercream above and slightly to the right of one of the bottom chocolate dots and drag it to the left this time. Repeat until you make another row all the way around the cake.
4. Pipe15-20 minutes
Now repeat rows of “right piped” dots followed by rows of “left piped” dots until you reach the top of the cake.
