By this point, Kate Middleton is no stranger to celebrating Christmas with the royals. This year, Prince William and Duchess Kate will be dining with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the Middleton family estate in Berkshire, and it sounds like they’re planning to serve some healthy choices. Why? Well, because not only is Kate Middleton serious about eating well, but her mom, Carole Middleton, recently adopted a vegan diet.
It’s actually not an unusual choice for a royal, but it does make some traditional dishes a little difficult. That’s why the eldest Middleton is planning on whipping up both standard Christmas dishes and vegan alternatives for everyone to enjoy. And surely both options will be devoured. We have to commend Middleton on her trendy (and progressive) choice of menu — these days, you need to make sure all diets (vegetarian, vegan, keto, gluten-free, dairy-free, etc.) are taken into consideration when throwing a party. Plus, vegan diets are especially on the rise. According to Food Revolution, there has been a 600 percent increase in people identifying as vegan in the last three years (in the U.S. at least).
But can you imagine cooking for so many royals? Middleton has a tough job ahead of her, but it seems like she’s up for the task. Plus, surely she’ll have a little bit of help from her VIP guests. This dinner is especially important, since it’s proof that there’s no bad blood between Kate and Markle, who have been heating up the tabloids together due to a rumored feud.
While it’s typical to pig out during the holidays, it’s good to remember that there are a bunch of meat and dairy-free options that’ll be gentler on your body. Plus, the holidays are a great time to experience new foods. If you’ve also been thinking about making a healthy change for the new year, now’s a good time.
It’s not clear as to what Markle, who’s currently pregnant, will go with. But as far as food goes, she’s always been about moderation. So, she’ll probably sample a little bit of everything! Except for carbs, because apparently the Queen doesn’t allow them. Whether or not that’s actually true, we’re unsure — but for everyone’s sake, we hope it’s not. Vegan AND carb-free sounds…not so festive.
