We’ve all been waiting for ages to know everything we can about the new royal baby. After Meghan Markle announced her pregnancy in October, fans have been speculating wildly. Nobody even knew whether or not it was a boy or a girl until birth. But even though all of us tried so hard to look for clues, we were missing a big one right in front of our faces.
Prince William’s adorable first child will be turning six this July, which is a pretty amazing age. By this point, he’s learning more and more every day, and even though he’s got an active sense of imagination, he’s still in tune with how the world works. Can you imagine how tuned in he is to royal etiquette at this point?
But, as cute as most 6-year-olds can be, they’re not the most trustworthy of people. They love being “in” on secrets, so much that they normally spill them quickly. Still, this situation is too odd to not be somehow linked.
Born on May 6th, Archie weighed in at 7 lbs, 3 oz. One of the best moments of the birth was Prince Harry’s reaction to the whole thing, having been in the delivery room.
Back in January, The Sun ran a story about a time when Prince George was out with his grandmother, Carole. They ran into a dog walker, who tried hard to mind her own business — but when a dog is present, oftentimes it’s hard for 5-year-olds to resist.
“I was asked by a police minder not to take a photo of the children, which I didn’t, but George started stroking my dog. Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it,” she said, according to The Sun.
“To my astonishment he said ‘I’m called Archie’ with a big smile on his face. I don’t know why he calls himself Archie but kids often play with their names and I think it’s lovely,” she said.

It could be a big coincidence, or it could be possible that George might have heard a discussion about the name choices and decided that “Archie” was for him and him alone. Because it’d be a little strange for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to steal a normal nickname away from their first royal nephew, right?
Just our luck! After reading that Prince George’s nickname was ‘Archie’ we sent him our 2 books about 11 year-old Archie, all in aid of @AutismResearchT, as a gift and received this lovely letter from @KensingtonRoyal. Prince Harry will just have to borrow them 👍@RoyalFamily https://t.co/N1aucA93QP

Or, maybe Markle had no clue that Prince George was listening in when going over the name possibilities. Regardless of what happened, the story wasn’t big enough for people to latch onto the information and assume it was anything other than a child having a very sweet, creative moment.

Fingers crossed that he doesn’t inherit Prince Harry’s red hair. Because then, he’d look like the most famous Archie around.
Regardless of who had the name first, baby Archie sure is adorable. Prince George is going to make such an incredible cousin, especially if his nickname choice was a way for him to express his excitement over the news.
