Princess Charlotte’s Outfit Has A Seriously Special Meaning In The New Royal Christmas Card

Listen — most kids are pretty cute. If you hang out with them long enough, they’re bound to say something funnier than any joke an adult would say. And don’t get me started on their clothes. While impractical for a few,  there’s something just too charming about a pair of baby shoes. But even if you’re not a huge fan of kids, you have to admit that there’s still something extra special about Princess Charlotte, the daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton. She just seems well beyond her years.

Princess Charlotte is currently 3 years old and chose her outfit for her 2018 family Christmas card (with the help of her parents, most likely) very carefully. It may be surprising to some, but it’s an outfit she’s already worn a few times before. In fact, so has older brother Prince George. If it holds up, it might be passed onto little brother Louis in just a couple of years.

It’s a classic blue cardigan, and it makes Charlotte absolutely pop in the card. And she definitely had competition — the card itself is a lovely photo of Prince William’s entire family sitting on a tree branch, and it’s an excellent shot.

According to the Kensington Palace Twitter account, they trusted photographer Matt Porteous with the job. As you can see, he delivered.

The photo, taken right outside of their home, just brings about a sense of family togetherness. And that’s why Charlotte’s blue cardigan was perfect. Because that’s the cardigan both her and her brother wore during some of their most memorable family moments.

For example, you can see George wearing it in this official photo for the Queen’s 90th birthday back in 2016:

And here’s Charlotte wearing it during one of her first introductions to Prince Louis, who was born on April 23rd of this year:

Even if they didn’t intend for the cardigan to symbolize family love, it’s what the piece turned into. And Charlotte’s incredible smile drives that point home even more. It’s pretty clear she has a strong connection to her family.

Aside from the cardigan, people also pointed out how unified the family looked in jeans — especially Prince George, who is often seen in a school uniform. It’s quite true that the look they chose resembled that of an everyday family.

Fans of the royals also couldn’t help but notice that Charlotte’s overall look in the Christmas card photo slightly resembles Princess Diana, Wiliam’s late mother.

It’s pretty clear that Princess Diana would have truly loved Charlotte’s cardigan choice — and Charlotte altogether.

People reported that the famous blue cardigan was made by a Spanish company called Fina Ejerique. Ana Perez, the company’s creative director, has been absolutely thrilled by the amount of love that the royal family has shown for the piece. “We are really proud that our cardigan has become one of their favorite pieces, worn by both Prince George and Princess Charlotte,” they said. “It’s really a great honor.”

The cardigan is still on sale at the Margarita and Co. shop if you want to make your own family memories with it. Made of 100% cotton, it’s retailing for €48.50, which is a little over $55 in American dollars.
