Now that she has moved her life overseas, we Americans were worried that Meghan Markle would be deprived of Thanksgiving festivities this year. However, there’s good news on the horizon. A deep dive into the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s lives reveals that an all-American Thanksgiving dinner may be on the royal docket — and thank turkey for that.
Firstly, the official royal website reports that all members of the royal family, excluding Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, have clear schedules on Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd, and the days surrounding. This leaves plenty of time for Meghan and Harry to cook up a turkey, mash some potatoes, and whip up a green bean casserole for their available family members, including Kate, Will, Queen Lizzy, and Prince Charles. Maybe they’ll throw in a Shepard’s Pie to have a little bit of United States, and little bit of the U.K.
Perhaps Camilla, who will be hosting a reception for winners of The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition at Buckingham Palace on behalf of the Queen on the actual holiday, can join in later for pumpkin pie and ice cream.
Delish also reports that Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, has ~maybe~ made a permanent move to London to help Meghan with her newborn. A September Vogue.com article noted that rumors of Ragland moving abroad have been rumbling since her daughter’s May wedding. And reports of Ragland taking infant care refresher courses sparked ideas that she’d be making the move right in time for the royal baby’s arrival.
With Meghan and Harry’s first child due in the spring, and the Queen inviting Ragland to spend Christmas with the royals in December, it would make sense if Ragland made the move before the holidays and Meghan’s third trimester.
TBH, if Meghan and Harry aren’t doing anything else on November 22nd, why wouldn’t they have a Thanksgiving dinner? Things are changing within the British royal family, so celebrating an American holiday with their new American family member seems absolutely fit for the times.
