Victoria Beckham Responds To The Haters Who Say She Should Have Smiled At The Royal Wedding

Victoria Beckham — fashion designer, our fave former Spice Girl, wife to soccer player David Beckham, and honorary royal — got some heat for not smiling at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding last weekend. Because if a woman isn’t smiling, she’s obviously a jerk. Literally, there are dozens of articles about the 44-year-old designer’s choice not to smile all the time. Like this one, this one, or this one for starters.

Beckham, who wore a gorgeous navy dress from her own fall 2018 collection (paired with a hat, obvs, and bright coral-red heels) arrived with husband David Beckham, who sported Dior Homme designed by Kim Jones. The couple looked stunning, but superserious. While the internet wondered if the Becks were bored or just totally not psyched to be at the freakin’ royal wedding, Victoria Beckham told the Evening Standard how she really felt about the wedding.

“It was such a beautiful, incredible wedding. It was just the best day. They looked so happy, and everybody was just so happy for them. Meghan seems like a genuinely lovely woman, who really loves him. It felt very real, very honest.”

She added, ” “I was just really honored to have been invited. I would have been nervous if it had been my day.”

And as for why she didn’t smile? Beckham chose to answer in the most hilarious way, ever.

“When you’re smiling on the inside. As the sweatshirt says!!” Beckham wrote in her Instagram caption. See? She was smiling at the royal wedding, it was just on the INSIDE, duh. The sweatshirt she’s wearing says “It’s a dark but happy place.” You can buy one one her website.

The Beckhams were invited to the wedding because Meghan Markle is actually friends with Posh Spice, I mean, Victoria Beckham. Markle went to her for fashion advice as she began to put together a wardrobe fit for a Duchess.

If you’re still hung up on the royal wedding, we totally suggest channeling your passions into a cake fit for a princess. Even though most of us couldn’t attend, at least we could make ourselves this insanely easy, tiered flower cake.

The So Yummy team shows you exactly how to make it in under thirty minutes. Now *that* is something we can’t not smile about.
