The 10 Most Popular Dishes To Try In The U.S. Are Worth The Cost Of A Roundtrip Flight

Fancy yourself some clam chowder? You’re not alone. In what may be one of the most interesting studies this year, Yelp looked over their data to see which dishes, from which places, were the most popular. So if you’re looking to plan a vacation around food, you might want to take some notes.

New England Clam Chowder topped the list, but not just your standard chowder — chowder specifically from Pike Place Chowder in Seattle, Washington. According to their website, they got their start after an argument occurred between staff members over chowder recipes — everyone thought their own was the best. So they let the customers decide, offering a new version of chowder every Friday.

“Hovering and arguing, we mixed secret spices with the very best clams, in a broth fit for royalty; then added bacon and potatoes slow-simmered with fresh milk and cream,” the site states. “Gradually, we had a briny, smooth-as-silk version presented to our customers, with an epic saga of sea-faring uncles and generations of grandmothers.” They kept on improving based on the challenge, winning festivals and earning the title of “Nation’s Best Chowder.” So, it makes sense that Yelp users would be a little curious.

Now that you have a tasty reason to visit Seattle, here are the other nine heavily sought-after dishes that followed Pike Place Chowder.

1. Pork Buns at Ippudo East Village in New York

2. Maine Lobster Roll at Neptune Oyster in Boston

3. Tea Leaf Salad at Burma Superstar in San Francisco

4. Wood Oven Roasted Pig Face at Girl & the Goat in Chicago

5. Crab Legs at Bacchanal Buffet in Las Vegas

6. Chargrilled Oysters at Acme Oyster House in New Orleans

9. Curry Udon at Marukame Udon in Honolulu

It looks like Americans really like seafood — four of the top ten use ingredients from the sea.

These places will likely get even busier than normal based on the recognition, so make sure you call and make a reservation before getting ready to chow down.
