It’s no secret that many members of the Kardashian family incorporate fitness and dieting into their daily habits and routines. Kourtney Kardashian’s diet, however, is especially noteworthy. For years, all of the sisters have shared details about their workouts and personal training sessions, even posting videos of themselves exercising in private gyms on a consistent basis. Kim Kardashian-West regularly talks about her past experiences with diets like Atkins and Keto, while Khloe Kardashian created an entire show, Revenge Body, about losing weight and getting fit. Kourtney, the eldest Kardashian sister, seems to take her health journey even more seriously, though. And she’s not afraid to talk about it or share her insights. If you’re even remotely familiar with Keeping Up with the Kardashians, then you probably already know Kourtney eats a lot of, well… kind of bizarre foods.
Some of her habits aren’t that reputable, though, and others sound pretty strange. For example, she fasts intermittently, spending days sipping bone broth. Other times, Kourtney starts her mornings with a spoonful of melted ghee. In fact, she avoids many foods that are arguably quite delicious. The eldest sister prefers this lifestyle, and her kids get involved in Kourtney Kardashian’s diet too.
Here’s a look at the odd, but super healthy, things Kourtney feeds her children.
But it doesn’t seem as if Kourtney is completely allergic to those ingredients. Neither are her children; they just have slight intolerances. The mother of three still removed all gluten and dairy from her household cupboards, however.
In a post on her app, she wrote, “A few years ago, the kids and I did muscle testing and found out we have sensitivities to both gluten and dairy. After speaking with my doctor and doing some research, I decided to try a gluten- and dairy-free diet.”
The mom noted, “Of course, we pick our battles and I do let the kids have popcorn at the movies and a churro at Disneyland, etc. But for birthday parties, which can sometimes be every weekend, I bring extra gluten and dairy-free cupcakes… and they are happy with that.”
Kourtney likes to eat avocado pudding or a banana spinach shake for breakfast, but she keeps things somewhat simple for the children. Go-to breakfast items for them include gluten-free waffles made with Arrowhead Mills Organic Waffle Mix.
Apparently, though, the family won’t go meat-free any time soon. Kourtney’s kids actually seem to love scrambled eggs, and she loves making them.
That’s not even strange, so we’ll give her that one!
Frosted Flakes or Cheerios aren’t approved; Kourtney only feeds her kids the healthy stuff. Her favorites include Kind Maple Quinoa Clusters and Puffins Honey Rice Cereal.
Kourtney mentioned that her brood only drinks homemade almond milk, organic rice milk, or organic coconut milk. Emphasis on homemade!
According to Minimalist Baker, this involves blending soaked almonds and using a nut milk bag to discard any excess pulp. Not as hard as it sounds!
Additionally, she loves to give her kids carrots and celery with hummus for lunch. We can live with that one, since that’s a snack that even non-celebs like ourselves love to chow down on.
The fit mom also claims to give them “a gluten-free rice tortilla with sliced turkey meat or turkey dogs — no bun.”
Fortunately, gluten-free products are more widespread than they used to be.
In a post on her app, she wrote, “Penelope and I love salads, so we usually eat a big yummy one for lunch.” The mom went on to say, “I usually have [a salad] with some type of protein added, like chicken or salmon. Whenever possible, I try to make my own simple balsamic or ginger dressing since store-bought dressings have lots of unnecessary sugar and preservatives.”
Instead, it’s super simple and healthy. The Kardashian notes that evening meals consist of lightly cooked veggies with gluten-free pasta. A protein like chicken, turkey, or fish typically rounds out dinner. Not the most exciting thing in the world, but hey, it gets the job done.
She said, “When we were just in Italy, we all had pizza one night. But for the rest of the trip, I found that almost every restaurant had gluten-free pastas and gluten-free bread.”
She also stated, “When I’m traveling (and sometimes on the weekend), I’ll cheat — I’m a little more lenient now than I was when I first started this whole [diet] thing.”
If you’re going to cheat on your diet, it may as well be in Italy!
She says, “I also try to avoid processed foods in general. I really try to focus on fresh and organic fruits and vegetables, and healthy proteins like salmon, chicken, and eggs.” Really, there’s nothing wrong with that — especially if you’re trying to teach your family the importance of being healthy.
Kourtney personally prepared their mashed fruits and veggies. She said, “My mom bought me this amazing baby-food maker, the Beaba. I steam and puree fruits and vegetables, and they last for like four days.”
And her oldest son, Mason, taste-tested everything first. Kourtney shared, “Mason pretty much loves everything. I gave him red beets, and it got all over his face, which made the funniest picture.” Sometimes playing with your food can actually inspire you to eat it, it seems.
She lets her three children eat between meals, but their snacks are healthy and filling — not sugary or full of empty calories. In fact, one of Kourt’s favorite snacks, Edward & Sons Black Sesame Brown Rice Snaps, comes dried, cracker-like, and sodium-free. Additionally, the mom likes Peeled Snacks Dried Mango and Mary’s Gone Crackers Organic Pretzel Sticks.
Kourtney shared, “It’s obviously best to snack on fresh fruits and veggies, but this is not realistic all the time. We still need to have a little fun and indulge a little every day. I recently discovered that tons of regular candy [are] gluten- and dairy-free. But, what they do have in them – which is not good for our bodies or our brains – is food coloring and artificial dyes. I strongly believe in avoiding artificial dyes and food coloring for kids’ diets.”
The health-conscious Kardashian does approve certain candies, and she especially enjoys Clif Kid Organic Fruit Rope, a much healthier alternative to Fruit Roll-Ups. Kourtney’s kids also snack on Lucy’s Cinnamon Thin Cookies, Yum Earth Organic Gummy Bears, and Torie & Howard Chewie Fruities Organic Candy.
The entrepreneurial mom explained, “I… make turkey chili when it’s cold outside. I usually try to make soups and chili on a Sunday, so I have the extras in the fridge when I’m busy during the week.” Her kids very likely get in on that home-cooked meal!
While it sounds nice to feed your kids such a healthy diet, we’re not sure we could survive on something so restrictive. But, to each their own, right?
Like every mom, she calls getting the kids to eat healthy a “never-ending battle” and girl, we feel you.
Pairing these with some salsa or guacamole sounds like heaven, especially with the tangy lime and sea salt flvaors.
Kourt says, “when shopping for quick bites, the most important thing is to avoid processed options.”
These are super filling and the product itself is constantly working to improve and protect the environment for generations to come. What we love about rice snacks, probably like the eldest Kardashian sister, is how healthy they are! Pro tip: add a little peanut butter.
This isn’t a surprising choice for Kourtney to recommend because she has previously said, “Snack food doesn’t always have to fall under the “junk” or “unhealthy” categories.”
These are so much healthier than chips. Plus they’re crunchy and crisp, which are the defining factors of a good pretzel. They’re also certified gluten free, which is super important to Kourney and her kids’ diets.
This dairy free yogurt alternative is a winner in Kourtney’s house. She names this brand as one of those “delicious choices that’ll have your kids begging for more, without ever realizing that they’re actually not eating junk food.”
