When I was a kid, I always saw grocery shopping as a hobby of my mother’s. She didn’t just go to the store — she went to multiple stores, armed with coupons and fully aware of the weekly deals. You can save a lot of money on groceries if you shop smart, like she did. But are there better ways to save on groceries besides coupons and store hopping? It appears to be so.
According to a national survey reported on by Today, there are actually certain days to catch the best bargains — and unfortunately, it’s not on the weekend, when you’re the most available to hit up the store. In fact, aside from the crowds jamming up the produce aisle, Saturday and Sunday are the worst times to stock up. Ibotta, a cash-back app, found that Wednesday and Thursday are among two of the best days to shop. But a lot of it depends on what you’re actually shopping for.
Tuesday: Wine. Many outlets offer wine for 4 percent cheaper on Tuesday, so it’s a good day to stock up.
Wednesday: Bread and beer. The two go together quite well (beer goes with anything, really) but now they have even more in common — bread is typically two percent cheaper, and beer is four percent cheaper on average.
Thursday: Sweet and savory snacks. If you’re a big fan of snacking, Thursday is a good day to hit the store. They’re a little less than 1% cheaper on Thursdays at many markets, which makes a big difference if you always have your house stocked.

Friday: Produce and ice cream are roughly 1% cheaper if you buy them at the end of the week. Interestingly enough, Friday is typically when people need ice cream the most.
Sure, the savings aren’t massive — and that’s probably why you didn’t notice them before — but they may very well change up how you shop. There aren’t many things in this world that we absolutely need to buy — but groceries are one of them, and it’s always great to save a little money.
