Both professional and home chefs are aware of Amco. The company, responsible for useful kitchen gadgets and prep tools, has been changing the way we cook since the 1970s. It just so happens that they created a product the world never knew it needed until now — a metal bar of soap that’ll get rid of some of the most offensive smells. Think garlic. Prior to, once you got your hands on it, you likely assumed the smell would linger on for the rest of your adult life.
So, how does it work? It’s actually pretty scientific. Garlic, in particular, contains sulfur, and when garlic is minced, that sulfur easily spreads on your hands. According to the Huffington Post, wetting your hands with water only makes the problem worse, as that turns the sulfur into sulfuric acid. But stainless steel manages to bind with the sulfur in a way that’ll transport those molecules right off your hands. It’s like magic, really.
The fact that it looks like soap means that it’ll flawlessly fit into any kitchen. And even though the smell won’t cause any harm (except for maybe making you feel kind of gross for smelling so strong) it’s just a nice gift for any chef who happens to work with potent ingredients like garlic, onions, or even fish.
These are especially perfect to have around if you’ve been hesitant to cook with certain ingredients since you’re making food for a date, or have something to attend shortly after dinner prep. Even if you work around food for a living, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should smell like it when you’re off the clock.
