12 Countries You Should Visit If You Love Cake More Than Anything In This Freakin’ World

For those of you who don’t just have a single sweet tooth, but rather an entire set of sweet teeth, you’ve come to the right place. We’re about to take you on an international tour of some of the best cake shops in the world— all of which you should travel to if your motto is “let meeat cake.” The countries listed below (and yes, some of them are listed twice) are theplaces to go to sink your sweet teethinto some of the best cakeyou’ll ever taste. Hungry yet?

Depending on what your favorite kind of cake is, locals may suggest one bakery over another. If you are looking to travel to find the best of the best in terms of food, absolutely ask around. Those who live in the area know what they’re talking about. And chatting with the locals is a great way to really immerse  yourself in your travel experience.

If you’re ready to go on an Eat, Pray, Love-style adventure in search of the perfect cake, start by checking out some of the below locations. The world is your oyster — uh, we mean three-layer chocolate ganache lava cake. Our stomachs are grumbling already.

1. Canada — Bobette & Belle in Toronto

Bobette & Bell founders, Sarah Bell and Allyson Bobbitt, started their bakery business with the aim to bring “haute couture cakes”to their clients. They now offer a wide variety of custom cake options — each more beautiful than the next. Fruit lovers should check out their Mango Passionfruit cake and those who  love a dose of decadence should turn their attention to the Salted Caramel Toffee Cake.

2. England — Lily Vanilli in London

We’re not entirely sure if we should eat Lily Vanilli’s cakes or display them on a pedestal in our home. Lily Vanilli offers a menu of weekly-changing cakes, pastries, soups, juices and sausage rolls that you can snack on while ogling at the bakery’s bespoke cakes. And if you want to try to make a Lily Vanilli-inspired cake upon returning home, head-baker Lily Jones has multiple recipes available on her site.

3. Austria — Demel in Vienna

For over 200 years, Demel has been refining their cake recipes to produce the highest-quality cakes, brought to life daily by master confectionaries. Demel boasts over 60 cake recipes and bakes and displays 20 signature cakes each day in their Vienna shop. Plus, word on the street is that there’s a hidden cake museum in the back of the bakery, so true cake enthusiasts can indulge their sweet tooth in a big way.

4. United States — Tatte in Boston, Massachusetts

You don’t have to travel far to get a great-tasting cake. Boston’s Tatte Bakery & Café hosts a wide selection of “dreamy cakes,” as their site claims, like Berries Cheesecake, Cinnamon Walnut Coffeecake, and a Plum Hazelnut Tart cake. And Tatte even offers four gluten-free cake options so everyone can get in on the deliciousness.

5. Israel — Gagou de Paris in Jerusalem

This little bakery is filled to the brim with traditional French sweets with an Israeli spin. Gagou de Paris offers a wide variety of different Parisian treats, including cakes, pies, and tarts that will satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth. It’s a hidden gem in Jerusalem, so if you’re in the city, you must get a taste.

6. England — The Peggy Porschen Parlour in London

Peggy Porschen’s in London might just be the most Instagram-able bakery in all of England. The pink exterior is draped in pink and purple summer blooms and truly looks like something out of a storybook. You’ll fall in love before you step through the door. And Peggy Porschen’s cupcakes and cake arrays are so magical they don’t even look real.

7. Denmark — Conditori La Glace in Copenhagen

Conditori La Glace is Copenhagen’s oldest bakery “and probably best confectionary in Denmark,” as its website boasts. Some of their internationally renowned cakes are even named after influential people and events. The “Stjernekræs” cake, for example, is named for Copenhagen’s World Outgames, which “celebrate[s] gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and trans-sexual men and women’s talents and contributions.”

8. China — Tai Cheong Bakery in Hong Kong

If you’re open to trying different takes on the classic cakes you know and love, you should head to Tai Cheong Bakery in Hong Kong to sample the famous traditional egg custard tart. Served in individual tins, you’ll get to mow down on the sweet eggy custard paired with a crispy crust that will change the way you think about dessert forever.

9. Canada —Blackbird Bakery in Whitehorse, Yukon

Walking into Blackbird Bakery is like entering your grandma’s kitchen. They’re a small shop located in Whitehorse and they change their menu depending on the season. During the fall, Blackbird makes a gorgeous pumpkin cake and an expertly frosted classic vanilla cake with white chocolate vanilla bean frosting. Their cake recipes will make you feel like you’re at home.

10. Argentina — Dos Escudos Confitería in Buenos Aires

Dulce de leche reigns supreme at Dos Escudos Confitería. From their “Mil hojas de dulce de leche,” which roughly translates to “sweet milk strudel,” cake to their multiple chocolate cakes piled high with mousse, chocolate shards, and dollops of dulce de leche — you better arrive with an empty stomach.

11. Italy — Pasticceria Veneto in Brescia

Pastry chef Iginio Massari creates cakes so imaginative you don’t know whether you’re looking at food or a modern art piece. Pasticceria Veneto is his “laboratory” where he crafts gourmet cakes and other pastries that are innovative and a delight to eat.

12. United States — Prantl’s Bakery in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania

Prantl’s Bakery is literally home to “the greatest cake America has ever made,” according to the Huffington Post. That cake is the burnt almond torte — a light and airy “cloud” frosted with buttercream and covered in candied almonds. But if nuts aren’t your thing, Prantl’s has different cakes and cupcakes galore.

Listen, we’d love to stay and chat, but we have a plane to catch. All of these cake places are callingour name.
