This Wedding Guest Was Shamed For Bringing Her Own Vegan Food

vegan wedding guest

I was a vegetarian for seven years. It was a lifestyle I was always interested in, and like most, college inspired me to give it a shot. While on my own, things were fine — I ate a lot of bean-filled soups and salads, and since plain pizza is vegetarian, I was good on that front. But, events were sometimes tough. Namely, weddings.

Typically, brides have two options. And usually, those are chicken or beef. Listen, I get it. If your wedding is for 150 people and you only know one vegetarian, it might seem tricky to try to get a third option.

Even though most people were accommodating, there was always that lingering fear before going in. “Will I be able to eat at this place?

Vegans have it even tougher. I mean, they don’t have the regular cheese pizza option, unless it’s from a specialty shop. And while everyone’s dietary requirements are their own, some people find it all too easy to judge vegans. Because giving up cheese and milk is not as easy accommodation, especially when beef and chicken are already off the menu.

That said, I kind of feel for the vegan wedding guest who brought her own food to the wedding events she was scheduled to attend. The story first appeared on a closed Facebook group called “That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming,” but then leaked onto the internet.

According to Yahoo, the guest chose to bring her own food to the hen party (which is the European version of a bachelorette), the rehearsal dinner, and even the reception. It seems to be a little much, sure.

But one of the reasons why she faced judgment is because she carried her food Tupperware around to all of the events. Which is understandable in a cafeteria, but maybe not at a formal event.

Still, it’s something that plenty of vegans out there have had to do. In fact, it’s kind of common.

Yahoo reports that the guest said the vegan “caused problems all weekend.” Due to her diet, “she didn’t want to pay the same price for food as everyone because she wasn’t going to eat things like pizza, eggs for breakfast, etc.,” they wrote. “I was cool with that.”

But, it went deeper than that. She was a vegan who food-shamed everyone else during the pre-wedding events.

“The whole weekend she moped around in the kitchen cooking her vegan food, in prep for whatever our next meal was that she wouldn’t be participating in and food-shaming us the whole time,” they reportedly continued.

That’s not the worst thing. Supposedly, the other girls were actually accommodating of her diet.

They had vegan food available so that she didn’t need to bring her own. But, maybe she didn’t trust it?

Still, wouldn’t she trust restaurant food? The places they attended had vegan options, but this guest still brought her Tupperware along. It’s unclear as to whether or not the restaurant would even allow outside food or drink.

Since Tupperware is pricey, she also had to lug it with her to all of the events afterward. There’s no doubt about it — the other guests won’t be able to look at Tupperware the same way again.

“Basically the whole weekend revolved around her being vegan and rude about it and she drove us crazy,” the guest reportedly stated. Of course, other vegans came to the rescue to reiterate the fact that not all vegans are like that.

Surely, this isn’t the worst wedding fail in the world. But it’s a reminder that if you have a special diet, maybe you want to plan ahead. Even bringing some vegan snacks would have been less of a hassle for this girl.

Plus, since it’s 2019, more vegan options are available at restaurants. And most restaurants have a menu online that you can look over before choosing to eat there.

Let’s give this girl the benefit of the doubt — if she just started her vegan diet, it’s possible she was unaware of what other foods she could eat. Plus, it’d also explain why she was overly excited about promoting the diet to her new acquaintances.

May this be a lesson to all of the others out there with dietary concerns. Unless you have a serious reaction to food that could lead to serious health issues, maybe you should leave the Tupperware at home.
