Here’s Your Morning Coffee Without the Side of Bad Breath

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee, Coffee, I don’t care until I have coffee. That’s repeated in your brain every morning. For anyone that has to wake up and face the world before 8 am; a cup of coffee is essential for a productive day. Coffee could possibly be the only reason you have a great day. It could also be the reason your breath stinks. Yup, maybe no one has had the courage to tell you yet, but coffee is a well-known breath offender. Many people are too addicted to quit coffee and choose to face the bad breath struggle every day. Luckily, there’s a way to prevent bad coffee breath.

It doesn’t matter what type of coffee you drink. It could be a hot fresh brew, cold brew, macchiato or latte- you will still be left with bad breath. The caffeine in coffee slows down your saliva production. That’s why you are left with a dry mouth after your first or second cup. Saliva is needed to wash away food particles that lead to bad breath. Also, coffee’s acidity levels lower your mouth’s pH and that enables odor-causing bacteria to flourish. Which leads to a case of bad breath.

You could turn your breath from bad to stankin’ real quick if you use milk and sugar in your cup. Both milk and sugar are bacteria breeders and will produce a sour smell. Do your co-workers a favor and lower that milk and sugar intake before your next meeting. Or you could partake in one of these three food items that will knock out that bad breath quickly.

Apples: has saliva producing enzymes
Ginger tea: boasts anti-bacterial properties
Water: flush that bacteria out yourself and hydrate your mouth.

Keep drinking coffee, but take necessary precautions with your breath too.
