You’re About To Be Outraged By This Flat Tummy Co Lollipop Ad In Times Square

When you’re walking through Times Square, there’s a lot to look at. Most of what you’ll see are ads, in one form or another. An ad for a Broadway play, an ad for the latest summer blockbuster movie, an ad for…a lollipop that suppresses your appetite? Sadly, yes. A company called Flat Tummy Co recently put up a gigantic ad that really stands out in the sea of Times Square billboards. And if the name of the company makes you angry, you’re REALLY not going to like what their ad says.

The new Flat Tummy Co billboard shows a woman holding two lollipops. “Got cravings?” the ad asks, Delish reports. “Girl, tell them to #suckit.” Sigh.

Flat Tummy Co is the same controversial brand that Kim Kardashian shared a sponsored post for back in May. They probably thought their new slightly risqué billboard would draw tons of attention to their appetite suppressant products. And they’re right — it did. But their plan backfired.

Once again, the attention Flat Tummy Co is receiving isn’t exactly the positive chatter they were probably hoping for. Once Twitter took note of the lollipop ad, all hell (rightfully) broke loose. Because it’s extremely not okay for a company to shame you for having an appetite or wanting to eat food.

When Sophie Vershbow‏ spotted the bright pink billboard, she posted a pic on Twitter to express her outrage and disgust. It’s gained a lot of attention. “Hey Twitter, Let’s use our power for good by guilting @FlatTummyCo into taking down their Times Square billboard advertising appetite suppressants,” she tweeted. She signed the post from “A former-anorexic teenage girl.”

The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil, an outspoken advocate for body positivity, also slammed Flat Tummy Co for the ad on Twitter.

She was especially disappointed that the ad specifically targets women. Calling its customers “babes,” using the millennial pink color — it’s all so disappointingly blatant.

Needless to say, people are NOT pleased with Flat Tummy Co. And with good reason. Like we said: It’s not okay for a company to shame you for having an appetite or wanting to eat food. Because it’s okay to eat when you’re hungry. Any company or person that tries to tell you otherwise can, well, #suckit.
