Staying hydrated is essential for keeping your body feeling and looking healthy. However, if you’re not drinking the right bottled waters, you could be damaging your health rather than improving it. A new study reveals that there are only four brands of bottled water that are safe to drink based on their pH and fluoride levels.
Robles told FoodBeast on November 6th, “If the bottled water has a pH lower than 5.5, then it has the ability to dissolve enamel, which is the hard protective outer layer of your teeth and the hardest substance in the human body.”
PH levels in water vary due to the filtration system different companies use to “purify” their product. This involves moving the water through several systems and adding chemicals to balance taste, thus affecting the pH of the final product.
So, although consumers think they’re doing the right thing by making the switch from sugary drinks to water, they could still be doing massive damage to their teeth that will show itself over time.
Sadly, of all the bottled water brands on the market today, there are only four that have pH and fluoride levels safe enough for our teeth.
“Both EPA and FDA have deemed (other) cleaning processes safe for human consumption, but from the dentistry point of view, it can have an impact on the health of teeth,” Robles concluded.
If you hydrate with one of the above bottled waters, your body and teeth will thank you.
