This Is The One Breakfast You Should Eat After Getting A Terrible Night’s Sleep

Sleep — you don’t know how important it is until you don’t get enough of it. Back when we were teens, it seemed easier to run on little sleep. And even so, there was plenty of time for catch-up naps. But now, with steady jobs and possibly kids of our own, getting a decent amount of sleep every night is essential to function. Fortunately, if you’ve had a rough night of tossing and turning, there’s reportedly one breakfast that’ll help you feel a little better.

It turns out that even one bad night of sleep can really affect the way your body works. If you’ve got way too much on your mind that’s driving you crazy, or possibly made the mistake of binging that last episode of Orange Is The New Black when it was already 11 p.m., your metabolism will take a hit. The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism figured out that “both long and short sleep durations have also been associated with the future development of life-shortening metabolic diseases such as obesity.” In other words, sleep and diet are connected.

With this in mind, is there a breakfast out there to help negate the damage that restless night of sleep caused?

Well, yes. You’ll want to avoid sugar, and focus on good carbs and protein. That means that an egg on a piece of whole grain toast is really your best choice. Eggs, in general, are kind of the ideal breakfast food.

“Having protein with breakfast can optimize your brain’s ability to send messages to the rest of your body, helping you wake up,” states SFGate, noting that the amino acids in protein help your brain function better.

If you don’t have eggs, peanut butter can also do the trick. Sipping on some water first thing in the morning may also help. No matter what, it’s a much better morning beverage than juice, which contains a lot of sugar.

Sure, nothing will beat a solid night of sleep. But it’s good to know that proteins will help us recover in case we have trouble hitting the hay.

If you want to take your breakfast to the next level, we have 6 egg hacks that will make you feel like a professional chef:
