Another day, another horrifying food recall. This week, it seems that the food industry has taken on some the best snacks you can buy at the grocery store. One of our favorite cheese dips has been recalled for a frightening issue, and honestly, it’s enough to make us never want to eat anything again.
According to Business Wire, approximately 7,000 cases of Taco Bell Salsa Con Queso Mild Cheese Dip are being voluntarily recalled because of the potential for botulism. No one has reported symptoms so far, but the cheese dip is being recalled as a precaution to try and ensure that no one does. The affected product is showing signs of product separation, which can create conditions that can allow for the growth of Clostridium botulinum (botulism).
Botulism isn’t something you want to mess with. It’s a potentially fatal form of food poisoning that can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension, and constipation may also be common symptoms.
If you have Taco Bell’s Salsa Con Queso Mild Cheese Dip at home, make sure to take a look at the dates and product number (the full list of recalled jars can be found here). The dip might not smell or look spoiled, but if it matches up to one on the list, throw it away immediately. You also have the option to return it to the store for a full refund.
This is the third major food recall that has been reported in only two days. Yesterday, we heard that both Ritz crackers and four flavors of Goldfish had been recalled due to Salmonella. Let’s hope the rest of our snacks are safe!
