It’s that time of the year when you overload on vitamin C and dodge sneeze attacks from coworkers all day. Sometimes no matter how much you try to prevent an illness, it’s inevitable and those symptoms start coming in fast. If you find yourself with a sore throat, there are foods that can help ease your pain. Contrary to popular belief, ice cream is one of them and I’ll tell you why.
Cold foods are great for relieving the pain of a sore throat. There’s a stigma with ice cream being used, due to it being a dairy. Dairy is believed to increase mucus and make a cough or soreness worse. However, there is a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition that states dairy does not have an exact correlation with an increase of mucus. It is safe (unless you’re allergic) to use ice cream as a pain reliever for a sore throat.
Honey is common for its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. This is exactly what’s needed to cure and comfort a sore throat.
Caution, this root has a big punch and may irritate your throat at first contact. It will eventually soothe and help with your sore throat. Ginger also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Sage steeped in hot water or any hot broth will help alleviate your sore throat. Sage can actually help alleviate many other physical pains as well.
The extracts from licorice can help with a sore throat. Studies show that if you steep the licorice in hot water, then proceed to gargle the water for one minute, there will be a compelling reduction of soreness.
