These Clever Cookie-Cutting Hacks Really Take The Biscuit
It looks like warmer weather is finally here to stay, and is there any better way to celebrate than by decorating cookies? Spoiler alert: there is not. We’ll show you how to make basic sugar cookie dough to get you started. Here are 12 creatives designs to give you some inspo!
How to make basic sugar cookie dough:
Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ tsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 cup butter
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients together. Then add eggs, almond and vanilla extract, and butter.
Mix well until solid.
To make chocolate cookie dough: add ⅓ cup cocoa powder and mix well.
Puppy Cookies
Directions:
Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out heart-shaped cookies (3 vanilla and 3 chocolate).
Slice chocolate hearts in half and put them along the sides of the vanilla hearts.
Finish with 2 mini chocolate chips for eyes and a chocolate M&M for the mouth.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Bird’s Nest Cookies
Directions:
Push cookie dough through a colander to create cookie spaghetti.
Using a bottle lid, press the top of the nest to make it flat.
Finish with M&M’s egg candies.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Paint Palette Cookies
Directions:
Using an egg-shaped cookie cutter, cut the palette cookies.
Cut the small circles inside of the palette using a piping tip.
Decorate with different colored M&M’s candies for paints.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Pineapple Cookies
Directions:
Cut star-shaped cookies and slice them in half.
Cut round-shaped cookies and remove the top of them.
Squish the 2 pieces of the pineapple together.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Microwave vanilla frosting and separate into 2 bowls.
Dye frosting using yellow and green food coloring, separately.
To decorate cookies: cover the bottom part of the cookie with a paper towel and pour green frosting over the top.
When frosting is dry, remove the paper towel and cover the top of the pineapple cookie.
Pour yellow frosting over the bottom part of the cookie.
Let dry and remove the paper towel.
Owl Cookies
Directions:
Cut round-shaped cookies and also cut small circles using a piping tip.
Place 2 small circles on a large circle.
Put 2 chocolate chips on top of the small circles.
Use a fork to make the print in the bottom part of the cookie
Finish with an almond piece for the beak.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Puzzle Piece Cookies
Directions:
Cut rectangular-shaped cookies.
Cut pieces off the cookie sides using a piping tip.
Put the small circles you just cut on the other sides of the cookie to create different puzzle piece shapes.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Sunny Side Up Egg Cookies
Directions:
Using a scalloped cookie cutter, cut some cookie dough circles.
Place a yellow candy melt candy on top of each cookie circle.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Ice Cream Cone Cookies
Directions:
Cut flower cookies using a flower-shaped cookie cutter and slice them in half.
Put the top piece of the ice cream onto the triangle-shaped cookies
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Let the cookies cool.
Cover the cone part of the cookie with a paper towel and pour melted white frosting over the top.
Finish with sprinkles.
Remove the paper towel when the frosting is dry.
Croissant Cookies
Directions:
Roll a large mound of cookie dough.
Cut the cookie dough into triangles.
Roll in the triangles, starting from the sides and rolling into the center.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Tea Bag Cookies
Directions:
Cut rectangular-shaped cookies and slice the top corners off each rectangle.
Using a toothpick, make a hole in the top of the cookie.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Dip cookies in melted chocolate, covering the bottom part of each cookie.
Sheep Cookies
Directions:
Using a flower-shaped cookie cutter, cut vanilla cookie flowers.
Using a piping tip, cut chocolate circles: 1 large for the face, 2 smaller pieces for legs, and 2 tiny pieces for ears.
Put chocolate circles on top of a vanilla cookie.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Lion Cookies
Directions:
Cut chocolate flowers using a flower-shaped cookie cutter.
Cut a small heart-shaped cookie and place into the center of the chocolate flower.
Cut 2 small vanilla cookie circles and place them on the chocolate cookie to create the ears.
Finish with 2 mini chocolate chips for eyes and a large chocolate chip for the mouth.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Coffee Mug Love Tag Cookies
Directions:
Cut out heart-shaped cookies.
Using a knife tip, cut and remove side pieces of the heart-shaped cookies.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Decorate with white icing and place a cookie on the rim of the mug.
