Easy Cutting Hacks To Make Number Cakes

Number Cakes! The perfect way to celebrate your day! Make any anniversary, graduation, or birthday extra special with a few simple cake cuts.

Number 1 Cake

So Yummy

Items:

  • One 9×9 square cake

Instructions:

So Yummy

Slice the cake along the dotted lines. Place the left piece horizontally underneath the middle piece. Then take the top right piece and place it horizontally above the middle piece (cut side facing left), and then place the bottom right piece on top of that, facing the same direction.

So Yummy

Coincidentally, the number one looks like a giraffe, so we frosted it with yellow buttercream, added a few fondant details, and voila, a little giraffe, perfect for a first birthday smash cake!

Number 2 Cake

So Yummy

Items:

  • One 9 inch circle cake
  • One pound cake

Instructions:

So Yummy

Cut a circle in the center of the cake (we recommend using a glass or a really big cookie cutter). Remove the middle, and then slice the lower left quarter.

So Yummy

Flip the quarter and then place the poundcake underneath.

So Yummy

For our cake, we frosted it with blue buttercream and then we created a rainbow using m&ms. We made little clouds with jumbo and not-so-jumbo marshmallows. And, what’s a rainbow without a pot of gold, so we added some chocolate coins at the bottom.

Number 3 Cake

So Yummy

Items:

  • Two 9 inch bundt cakes

So Yummy

Slice one bundt cake in half and slice the top left quarter out of the other one. Save your scraps. Place the halve one on top of the quartered one. We covered our cake in green frosting, sour belts, gummies, and pocky sticks to make a very hungry caterpillar that you’ll be even hungrier for.

Number 4 Cake

So Yummy

Items:

  • One 9 x 12 rectangle cake

So Yummy

Cut the cake into three slices. Leave the right slice whole, then cut the middle slice in half. Cut the half in half. With the left slice, cut one quarter diagonally from the top and another quarter from the bottom.

So Yummy

Discard the two diagonal quarters and one of the center middle cuts. Take the other middle cut and place it to the right of the right slice. Then move down the middle piece and connect the left piece to the top. Use the middle piece to connect the bottom of the left piece to the near bottom of the right piece.

So Yummy

To make a uni-four-n, we piped vanilla buttercream through a round piping tip and piped little dollops all over the cake. Then, we added a pink and purple star tip mane, some fondant decorations, and an eyelash to make a sassy uni-four-n!

Number 5 Cake

So Yummy

Items:

  • One 9×9 square cake
  • One 9-inch circle cake

So Yummy

Cut the square cake into three slices, cutting the middle slice in half. Discard the right slice and one of the middle pieces.

So Yummy

Then, use a glass to cut the middle out of the circle cake and cut out the upper right quarter. Discard both. Lower the left slice and connect it to the circle, then rotate the middle piece horizontally and connect to the left slice.

So Yummy

We made a bourgeois dirt cake by frosting it with chocolate frosting, covering it in cake crumbs (from the discarded cake pieces!), and we placed pirouette cookies around the edges to create a garden wall. Then, we squished in strawberries to look like little patches of grass, and added in some candy rocks and gummy worms, because it’s a dirt cake, not a “Grandma’s Fine China Garden Party” cake

Number 6 Cake

So Yummy

Items:

  • One 9-inch circle cake
  • one pound cake

So Yummy

Cut out the center and slice off a tiny bit of the upper left corner. Then, connect the pound cake to the cut corner. This is the easiest number.

So Yummy

We made a 6 stage alarm fire truck, so we covered it in red frosting, made a ladder out of pretzels, oreos for wheels, and a licorice hose!

Number 7 Cake

So Yummy

Items:

  • One 9-inch square cake

So Yummy

Just kidding, THIS is the easiest one! Cut into three slices, cut the middle slice in half diagonally. Discard the right slice.

So Yummy

Flip the left slice up horizontally and connect the other two slices beneath it.

So Yummy

To make our “Seven Seas” cake, we covered the lower leg in blue buttercream, and the upper leg in yellow buttercream and graham cracker crumbs. To decorate the ocean, we added in swedish fish and Teddy grahams with lifesaver gummy inner tubes. To decorate the beach, we cut fruit roll ups into squares and used them as sunbathing towels for the Teddy grahams.

Number 8 Cake

So Yummy

Cut out the centers of the circle cakes, and then slice two edges. Connect the cakes.

So Yummy

We made an 8 race track, so we covered the cake in black frosting, piped some green grass, and used Good N Plenty candy to make the lines in the road. Add some hot wheels and you’re good to go!

Number 9 Cake

So Yummy

This one is the 6 cake flipped upside down. Because we at So Yummy acknowledge that Pluto is a planet (#ohanameansfamily), we decided to make a galaxy cake out of the number nine to honor all nine planets.

So Yummy

We started with a base of black frosting, then swirled in blue and purple frosting and speckled it with white food coloring. Add some candy planets and star sprinkles for an out of this world cake!

Number 0 Cake

So Yummy

Slice the pound cake in half. Cut the center out of the circle cake and then slice it in half.

So Yummy

Separate the circle halves and fill in the gaps with the pound cake halves.

So Yummy

We decided to make a pineapple cake by piping yellow frosting through a small star tip all over the cake. Then just pipe on a smiley face and some leaves to finish it up!
