One Nation, Under Cake, Indivisible, with Pie and Ice Cream for All

Happy 4th of July for anyone who celebrates the holiday! We’ve got 2 new patriotic treats to whip up this holiday. Be sure to check them out below to get the full list of ingredients and tools you’ll need, as well as step-by-step instructions to help you along the way.

Patriotic Pie

This massive sheet pan pie is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Ingredients:

  • pie crust
  • store-bought pie fillings (blueberry and strawberry)

Tools:

  • large baking sheet
  • pizza cutter
  • cookie cutter (star-shaped)

Instructions:

1. Cut strips out of a circular pie crust.

2. Line the baking sheet with pie crust.

3. Create a border for the blue portion of the flag using excess pie crust.

4. In the top left portion, add the blueberry pie filling.

5. Add the strawberry pie filling to the remaining area of the flag.

6. Add pie crust stars to the blueberry portion of the flag.

7. Finish with pie crust stripes in the strawberry portion. Trim any excess that hangs over the baking sheet.

8. Bake until everything is cooked through.

 

“Surprise Inside” Flag Cake

This cake may look pretty boring on the outside, but once you cut into it it’s sure to wow your guests!

Ingredients:

  • red velvet cake rounds
  • blue velvet cake rounds
  • white cake round
  • buttercream frosting

Tools:

  • ice cream scoop
  • frosting spatula
  • piping bag

Instructions:

1. For the base, start with a red velvet cake round.

2. Add a scoop of buttercream frosting to the cake round and spread evenly with the spatula.

3. Add a layer of the white cake round.

4. Add another scoop of buttercream frosting and spread evenly with the spatula.

5. Top with another red velvet cake round.

6. Scoop buttercream frosting and spread evenly again.

7. This time, add the blue velvet cake round with the center punched out on top of your final layer of red velvet.

8. Insert a small white cake round into the center of the blue velvet layer. This layer should only be half the height of the blue cake.

9. Add a small scoop of buttercream frosting to the white cake round. Spread evenly just over the center.

10. Top with a small red velvet cake round into the center of the blue velvet layer.

11. Add 3 large scoops of buttercream frosting to the top of the cake and spread evenly to cover the entire cake.

12. Optional: pipe buttercream frosting in a swirling pattern as a border on top of the cake.
