The Most Controversial Starbucks Drink May Be Coming Back This Month

Update (August 10th, 2018 – 12:20 p.m. PST): According to Business Insider, the PSL will allegedly be returning on August 28th!

It’s hot out — and even though most people have been safely staying indoors due to these way-too-humid temperatures, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re thinking about the fall. But Starbucks might be. Rumor has it that their best-known fall drink may be making an early appearance in stores, so you may want to prepare yourself. (We’re talking pumpkin spice lattes.)

Starbucks has been known for many things — the brand is pretty much a lifestyle. But it wasn’t until their pumpkin spice latte became big that the company became an autumn staple. While pumpkin has always been a great fall flavor, Starbucks found a way to make it their all-star drink.

The pumpkin spice latte was originally developed back in 2003. Peter Dukes, director of Espresso Americas for Starbucks, helped develop the monumental beverage. “Nobody knew back then what it would grow to be,” Dukes said to the company. “It’s taken on a life of its own.” Excitement for the drink happened almost immediately, and enthusiasm for the PSL grew every year.

So, why is it often controversial? Well, even though none of us would like to be known as “basic,” the PSL is right up there with Uggs when it comes to basic must-haves. And there’s nothing wrong with that.  The stomach wants what it wants, titles aside.

Fans know that when August hits, the fall seasonal drinks are mere weeks away.

However, the pumpkin spice latte might make an earlier appearance than you think. Rumor has it that the ingredients are already hitting up Starbucks locations.

Business Insider has predicted that the beverage will be available as soon as August 28th, which really isn’t that far away. No matter what, fans are eager. Even if you think the drink is a little basic, it’s always nice to have something positive (and delicious) to look forward to.
