When it comes to breakfast sandwiches, nobody beats McDonald’s — although, Taco Bell comes surprisingly close. There’s a reason why people cheered when the chain started offering them up all day. Because, what’s better than breakfast for dinner? McDonald’s recently gave their menu a bit an overhaul, but unfortunately, their breakfast options remained the same. Sure, the breakfast sandwiches are still delicious, but they’re not the best choice for other reasons.
McDonald’s has been focusing a lot on health recently, making the news by introducing fresh ingredients and cutting out a lot of unnecessary chemicals. Their most recent move was renovating their burger menu. Everything from their standard cheeseburgers to their Big Macs has been changed to remove all artificial ingredients, except for the dill pickle. They’ve even upgraded their cheese, which no longer contains sorbic acid. It’s a big change, and was actually somewhat of a risk for McDonald’s. Who thought they’d be willing to mess with the classics?
Luckily, they’re professionals — and they worked hard to preserve the signature taste we know and love. But, why didn’t they do the same to the breakfast menu?
It makes sense, if you think about it — McDonald’s put a lot of work into making sure their menu items were healthier. But, it’s a big project to take on. Think of it this way — their breakfast menu items aren’t unhealthier than they were last month, they just may seem that way in light of the burger makeovers.
Plus, it doesn’t mean that the McGriddle isn’t next up on McDonald’s list of big changes. Really, it’s a positive step forward to know how much healthier options mean to the company. So, it’s quite possible that once they see the benefits of removing artificial flavors, they’ll move onto the next phase of food.
No matter what, you should still enjoy your morning Egg McMuffin. It’s a delicious breakfast sandwich, after all.
