Even if you don’t want to openly admit it, emojis are a big part of our lives. If they weren’t, a movie wouldn’t have been made about them and they wouldn’t have their own line of merch. I mean, it makes sense — if you want help illustrating your text, adding an emoji is the perfect way to accomplish that. With this in mind, we can see why people would get a little ticked off if they don’t feel represented by the new emoji releases.
There’s been a public outcry over a few emojis in the lineup. For one, it took way too long for a redhead emoji to reach the public. But it’s also taken way too long for a bagel to be portrayed, which is strange. Sure — the low carb trend might have killed a few independent bagel shops from way back when, but most of us still feel pretty satisfied gnawing on a bagel with cream cheese before the workday. It’s satisfying, it’s delicious, and even better, it’s portable.
The good news is that, along with the aforementioned redhead, bagels are on the way. The bad news? The emoji originally chosen was super lame. It was a plain bagel with no toppings, facing up. Using it in a text would make you feel like you’re inviting buddies to the most boring brunch of all time.
Time for the good news. Enough people were upset that the designers went back and changed the emoji to make it slightly more satisfying for Apple users. Now, it includes cream cheese!
It also looks a bit plumper — which is the way a bagel should be.
Even though they made plenty of bagel fans happy, others are still demanding more. After all, there’s a ton of different spreads that you could put on a bagel.

Others felt like other food emojis would have benefitted from an upgrade as well.
All you bagel emoji complainers have it easy. Imagine being Italian and having to suffer through this pizza emoji atrocity for YEARS pic.twitter.com/VZhffx35xw

It’ll be interesting to see the emoji variety in just another decade. Maybe then, there’ll be a ton of different bagel options to choose from (as well as a few different pizza slices as well!).
