Starbucks’s New Juniper Latte Tastes Like A Christmas Tree, Which Is A Good Thing?

We’ve come to expect sugary, candy-like, mocha-choca-latte-yaya drinks from Starbucks. However, the coffee chain surprised customers by introducing something a bit more subdued to its winter menu. The Juniper Latte is a pine-flavored espresso drink that will add understated holiday flair to every day of your week.

The Juniper Latte was originally made available at select Starbucks Reserve Stores last year, according to Food & Wine. But this year Starbucks customers in the U.S. and Canada can warm their hands on a cup as of today, November 27th.

Junipers are coniferous evergreen plants that produce small berries. These berries can be used in many different dishes, and are perhaps best known for flavoring gin.

Per the Starbucks site, the Juniper Latte is made with Starbucks’s signature espresso, steamed milk, and juniper syrup, giving the beverage a herbaceous, citrusy scent and flavor. The latte is topped with “velvety foam” and a sprinkle of pine-citrus sugar.

Customers can also ask for their Juniper Latte served cold over ice.

The Juniper Latte joins the classic lineup of Starbucks holiday beverages: the Caramel Brulée Latte, Peppermint Mocha, and Toasted White Chocolate Mocha. Other seasonal drinks include the Chestnut Praline Latte, Eggnog Latte, and the Gingerbread Latte.

Like the rest of its festive family, the Juniper Latte will only be available at your local Starbucks for a limited time throughout the holidays.

Grab a piney Juniper Latte before, during, and after the rush of the holiday season kicks in and you’ll feel as though you’re drinking Christmas out of a cup.
