It seems as though there’s a new Oreo flavor hitting store shelves every week. However, the latest cookie flavor Oreo’s parent company Mondelēz is toying with may cause more controversy than the Swedish Fish Oreo. According to CEO Dirk Van de Put, there may be a cannabidiol (CBD) cookie in our future.
“We’ve been looking at it,” Van de Put told CNBC in an interview on Wednesday, May 1st. “We’re getting ready but obviously we want to stay within what is legal and play it the right way.”
In actuality, Van de Put said he would most likely not incorporate CBD into an existing Mondelēz family brand like Oreo, Chips Ahoy!, or Ritz. “Our view on it is that we have a number of family brands, Oreo would be an example, so we feel a little bit hesitant about doing anything with CBD in family brands,” he said.
However, he believes the health benefits of CBD are definitely worth the company’s exploration. “I do think that that will be something that will enter the main food space in the not-so-far-future,” Van de Put told CNBC.
According to The Hill, although many products containing CBD have been legalized, the compound is still not permitted to be added into commercially-sold food items.
Therefore, it might be a while before we see a Mondelēz-backed CBD treat.

So, cool your jets, people. CBD Oreos are not currently on the docket.
“The space is not clear,” Van de Put said, regarding the legalization of CBD in food items. “It’s a bit clearer in non-food products. In food products, I’m hoping that the FDA will bring some clarity in the coming months.”

Mind you, CBD is not the compound in cannabis that gets a person “high.” That’s THC.
CBD is a separate compound that can help those suffering with chronic pain, anxiety, and depression, among other health issues, without any mind-altering side effects.
Some opt to take CBD oil instead of traditional medications as an all-natural alternative to treating certain health issues.
CBD won't get you high. Talk to me when they make THC infused Oreos.

If there were a THC Oreo in the works, then we could def say “Trips ahoy!” But we doubt that will ever happen under Mondelēz.
A CBD Oreo, on the other hand, could definitely be an awesome thing for sufferers of anxiety or depression. Just imagine what life could be like!
Wow. Munchies-causing munchies. Amazing!
Honestly, we’re totally on board. Do it, Mondelēz (when it becomes legal to do, that is)!
Mondelēz could definitely lead a revolution amongst our favorite brands. CBD could just be the next big thing in the fast food and snack industries.
now that oreo's making cbd cookies, and burger king is raising awareness of mental illness with "real meals," i'm hoping mcdonalds rebrands ronald as sex positive.

If snack companies do decide to go the CBD route when available, precautions will have to be taken so the infused items don’t get into the wrong hands. They may even have to be sold at specialty marijuana dispensaries.
I assume they will be sold in Marijuana store not Walmart but it better come with child proof lock or else it could go very bad

We certainly don’t need our kids eating CBD. That is, unless it’s been prescribed to them by a doctor.
Despite some concerns, most people are reacting positively to the possibility of CBD-infused cookies. Of course, now that CBD is legal, it’s easy to make CBD-infused cookies at home, so we won’t *actually* have to wait for Mondelēz to make a move.

We’ll absolutely be seeing a lot more CBD products on the market. CBD-infused anything is truly the new PSL.
CBD is the new Pumpkin Spice.
