Some people just can’t stop themselves from bothering their waiters. The rich diners are occasionally rude and entitled. And the other allegedly normal diners can actually just be plain weird. In fact, a lot of waiters leave work feeling completely shocked by the customer orders. People just don’t believe in ordering from the menu anymore.
We’re not talking about the customers who ask for dairy-free or gluten-free meals. No, food allergies make sense as do most other food restrictions. And those restrictions should be adhered to. Instead, we’re perplexed by those meal adjustments that are nearly impossible to fulfill. Plus, they can’t possibly all that taste good.
For example, some people order huge plates of raw onions instead of onion rings. Other odd customer orders call for pizza without the crust. Apparently, though, waiters get these kinds of strange requests all the time. They do their best to satisfy the complicated requests, and we’re grateful. But diners just need to be better.
1. The Non-Dieter
Diets are really difficult to maintain. But, this is a little ridiculous.
Remember, your waiter is also taking care of other tables. It’s extremely important that your waiter follow diners’ health and dietary concerns. However, it’s a little insulting if they go out of their way when the diner isn’t even too keen on following the plan. At least get dessert somewhere else if you plan on cheating.
2. One Ingredient
We like bacon too, but this is a bit much.
If you’re too embarrassed to just order the one thing you want, making everything complicated for the waiter won’t really help matters. Just ask if you can get a plate of bacon. If you’re eating at a place that serves all-day breakfast, your request won’t even be that weird. They likely already provide bacon as a side.
3. Too Healthy To Be Real
When you go low-carb, substituting lettuce for bread is often a great step to take.
But, usually, that lettuce has other food options in it. Like, beef. Or maybe tomatoes. What we’ve got here, friends, isn’t a taco. This customer just ordered a pile of lettuce. They might as well purchase a head of iceberg at the grocery store and eat it at home. It would be a lot cheaper.
4. Boring Poultry
We doubt Oprah would like this chicken.
This woman had zero qualms about complaining about her food. But she ordered a bland dish to begin with. What was she thinking? If she wanted seasonless chicken to still taste good she should have tried to make it herself. When you order something plain, expect it to come out plain.
5. A Healthier Onion Ring
Kids have weird tastebuds.
But this order just seems anti-child. Did this mom just tell her daughter that all onion rings are raw and not fried? Either way, at least the kid’s getting in all of her veggies (or at least, one veggie). Plus, everyone at the table left happy; that’s the most important part.
6. Well, This Is Disturbing
Seriously, this customer crossed a line.
If you can’t properly cut or chew your food, you probably shouldn’t dine alone. And even if this guy was joking, the waitstaff likely struggled to think up an adequate response in time. What if their tip was on the line. Next time you have a distracted waiter, just imagine they got a request like this from someone else minutes earlier.
7. At Least It’s Helping His Blood Pressure?
It’s good to include garlic in your diet.
But maybe this isn’t the best way to get your nutrients. Indeed, garlic can help combat colds and reduce your risk of heart disease. Garlic juice just doesn’t seem appetizing, though. This guy seemed to have a sense of humor about it, but we might not be as willing to down 12 ounces of the stuff on a regular basis.
8. Strange Substitutions
This actually sounds pretty good.
If you want to take this guy’s lead, though, maybe request a side of meatballs and a side of fries. If you order like him, the waiter may give you a little side eye. Tomato-based sauces can make great and flavorful dips for French fries, but taking the spaghetti out of spaghetti and meatballs is just a little sad.
9. More Like A Bad Cheese Sandwich
This one almost seems sinister.
Listen. Cheese tastes good at nearly any temperature. Ever ate a slice of cold cheese pizza? It’s still pretty delicious in its own way. But while this sandwich request is edible, it makes a complete mockery of grilled cheese. Maybe the customer could have saved the waiter some trouble and just waited a few minutes before eating their meal.
10. Wrong Restaurant
It’s one thing to confuse a restaurant.
In fact, plenty of other people probably make that same mistake all the time. This woman definitely didn’t need to make a scene, though. And she didn’t need to take out all of her frustrations on the waiter who was unluckily assigned to her table. It’s very possible this woman just wanted to get a free meal, but she should feel embarrassed by her actions.
11. The Non-Pizza
Wait — the kid doesn’t like pizza?
If he had an allergy we might understand the request. Dairy intolerances are no joke. It seems like he was just a picky eater, though. And the dad supported the strange request. Why didn’t this father and son duo dine literally anywhere else, though? It might make things easier for them.
12. The Dad Joke
At least his request was harmless.
Still, what about all of the other waiters and waitresses he pestered. They certainly didn’t get the joke, and they may not have had the patience to deal with such a strange request. If you’re a waiter who gets a diet water order, at least now you know the steps to take in order to make the customer happy.
13. The Mean Bean
Ever go out of your way to count the number of beans in your soup? No? Good.
We understand that maybe this customer just didn’t like beans. But wouldn’t it be much easier for her to order a soup that simply didn’t have beans? She purposefully punished the waiters for something that was out of their control. It was cruel, but at least they didn’t take her ridiculous request without a fight. Fingers crossed this woman changed her ways or at least stopped going to that restaurant.
14. The Worst Dessert Ever
You thought you heard of every weird dessert combo.
Maybe the kid thought ketchup was a strawberry topping or maybe he just had strange tastebuds. Some ketchup brands do taste a little sweet, though. So who knows? Perhaps it tasted good. We don’t have any desire to try this ice cream combination. But we do wonder how the parents reacted.
15. She Knows Her Soda
And she even cut down on calories.
It’s not so strange that someone would order a mix of these two sodas. But how did the customer know exactly which soda went into the cup first? Did she have some kind of soda sense? And if so, maybe she could put her talents to better use. Pestering the waiters just doesn’t seem like a good use of time.
16. Pizza To Go
He may have wanted to cut down on carbs.
Now, this dish probably isn’t the healthiest option either. But you really have to admire the staff who took a weird and impossible order and turned it into something enjoyable, regardless of how traumatizing it may have been at the time. Next time someone asks you if you want take-out pizza, hopefully, you won’t picture this concoction.
