There’s something very special about Skittles. They’re almost like the chewier, fruitier cousin of M&Ms. But, a brand new version was just released that proves they’re more than just a “rainbow.” They can also be absolutely horrifying.
Since Halloween is just around the corner, Skittles chose to debut their holiday offering. They’re called Zombie Skittles, and fans have been curious about them since last year.
That’s right — before Halloween 2018, Skittles already announced that Zombie Skittles were in the works for 2019, meaning that a lot of time and dedication went into making this snack perfect.
So, what are Zombie Skittles? By looking at the name, you might think they’d be somewhat similar to Ghost Dots (may they RIP.) But, they’re just the opposite. While Ghost Dots were all translucent with hidden fruit flavors, the Zombie Skittles have remained colorful. The flavors themselves are just much more different than what you’d find in a standard pack.
According to Delish, the flavors to expect are Petrifying Citrus Punch, Boogeyman Blackberry, Mummified Melon, Blood Red Berry, and Chilling Black Cherry. Interestingly enough, they eliminated any citrusy summer flavors.
But, that’s not all. Mixed with these five flavors is, supposedly, a “Rotten Zombie” flavor. Say what now?
That means that you might want to cautiously eat these Skittles one at a time. Not a handful at once, like so many of us do.
The real question is, who had to taste-teste the Zombie Skittle to make sure it tasted close to a decomposed zombie? Those must have been a difficult few days at work.
Instagram account tmc_reviews adds that Skittles made the process even more difficult. You can’t just suck on it and figure out which Skittle is the zombie flavor. You have to actually chew, and eventually, the flavor will reveal itself.
Yuck. At least the package looks cool.
Even Mars, the company that manufactures Skittles, thinks they’re disgusting. “It’s an utterly disgusting taste experience that will elicit strong reactions from anyone and everyone daring enough to try it,” they said, per FoodBevMedia.
Rebecca Duke, who works as the senior brand manager for Skittles, said that the Zombie Skittles were very much in-line for the brand. “Our fans love Skittles not just for its delicious fruity flavours, but for the irreverence and sense of humour for which the brand is known,” she added.
Sense of humor is right. Fans already can’t help but joke about the spooky new flavor.

Some of them even thought about the type of product it’d be years before Skittles would even announce it as a reality. This slogan would have been perfect.

FoodBevMedia goes on to report that Skittles is also trying to create a viral challenge out of their new product. It’s been some time that a viral challenge took over, and since this is candy-related? Why not.
It’s called “#DareTheRainbow Challenge,” and includes taking videos of yourself eating the bag of Zombie Skittles. If you post it on Instagram, you’ll want to make sure you use the proper hashtag and tag @skittles as well.

So if you love hilarity and Halloween, you might want to try and follow that hashtag. Or, upload your own video if you’re up to the challenge.
Who knew candy could be so entertaining? This definitely puts Skittles in the lead as far as 2019 Halloween candy goes.

You’ll just want to make sure not to shock an unexpected parent or grandparent with these. That’s just cruel, especially if they’re unaware of what to expect.
Delish reports that these will come in fun-size bags that your trick-or-treaters will love. They’ll reportedly retail for $2.99.
They also come in full bags as well, which means you can easily showcase these spooky candies at your Halloween party. That is, if you dare.
