Break out the friendship bracelet kit, get some Kleenex, and clear the kitchen floor for a private dance party, because two of the music world’s most famous former friends are ready to make up. Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have been caught up in a cold war of cryptic tweets and pointed song lyrics since 2014, reportedly over some business-related backstabbing. But on May 8th, 2018, which happened to be the first night of Taylor’s world tour for her long-awaited album Reputation, Katy sent her frenemy an olive branch. Literally.
That night, Taylor posted an Instagram story showing a box from Katy that was delivered to her dressing room. It contained a huge, Julius Caesar-style olive wreath, and a note with a picture of a puppy on it. While only some of the message is legible on the phone camera (although that hasn’t stopped fans obsessively trying to decode it), the top part clearly says, “Dear old friend,” which is heart-wrenching enough after years of bickering. Taylor apparently agrees: we hear her say, “This means so much to me.”
Here’s the video that started the thaw:

Since then, it’s been all quiet on the feud front — until now.
It started when renowned proud cat lady Taylor added a third member to her growing feline family.
She already had two cats, Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey, named for characters from Law & Order: SUV and Grey’s Anatomy, respectively.
And while filming the video for her newest single ‘ME!’ Taylor met and fell in love with a kitten who seemed to be asking her to adopt him, People reported.
Like any cat mom, Taylor posts about her cats A LOT.
And we love it.
She even told Time magazine that they were the biggest influences in her life.

When Taylor posted yet another photo of new kitten Benjamin Button (aka Benji), fans couldn’t help noticing that one of the thousands of people who liked it was… KATY PERRY!
It seems that Taylor paid Katy back for that small gesture with one of her own.
On May 24th, Taylor released a playlist on Apple music called ‘Playlist by ME!’ in reference to her latest single. It includes tracks that she’s personally loving.
“These songs are the soundtrack to my story at the moment. I love this playlist for kitchen dance parties, long drives home, sun-soaked reflection, or aggressive bopping. All songs have been loved and appreciated by ME!”— @taylorswift13

And on Friday, fans noticed that Taylor had added another track: Katy’s new single, “Never Really Over,” which was released the night before.

The title of Katy’s song seems especially relevant.
People are happy to see two women showing solidarity.
The reunion is even provoking envy among fans of other artists at war:

Others are taking a more direct approach about letting their idols know that they really, REALLY want this:
Whether the two choose to team up professionally or not, we’re happy to see that they’re personally supporting each other’s cats and music.
