McDonald’s New McPickle Burger Is A Cruel April Fools’ Day Prank

Ah, April Fools — the time of year when bad pranks make people not laugh at all and major food chains trick their customers so hard that they actually let them down. At least that’s what McDonald’s did this year when they released a hamburger that came FILLED TO THE ABSOLUTE BRIM (BUN?) with pickles.

Mickey Dee’s Australia released a heartbreaking tease to the public:

“Pickle lovers, it’s the news you’ve all been waiting for. We’re super stoked to announce the launch of our brand new McPickle Burger. It’s time to tuck into juicy, flavoursome pickles layered between melted cheese, ketchup sauce and toasted sesame seed buns. It’s sure to be a treat for all your senses.”

Everyone knows that there are two camps of people: the weirdos (otherwise known as people who give their pickles to their friends) and the normal people (people who will gladly take their friend’s pickle donations, even if we’re judged for it).

WANT A McPICKLE? McDonald's Australia played an April Fools Day joke on fans. The company shared a picture on Instagram of what looks like a Big Mac but with just pickles! It then posted in the comments, "available until yesterday." #AprilFoolsDay #McDonalds pic.twitter.com/odSZ4w81lT

For those of us who just want more pickles (because how is one or two tiny little slices ever, ever enough?), this gift from fast food heaven was enough to have us throwing away our Monday salads and running to our local Mickey Dee’s.

Because we just want this to happen, okay?

My mother once ordered a cheeseburger at McDonalds. Asked for extra pickles. Well the cook had a sense of humor. When she got home to eat it there was no meat and pickles an inch thick. This happened on #AprilFoolDay We both still laugh about it to this day. #McPickle pic.twitter.com/Lr7VkpSvQd

But not so fast. Abandon hope all ye who enter here. As fate would have it, McDonald’s was April Fools-ing us!

.@McDonalds I’m extremely disappointed about the non-existent pickle burger. Three levels of pickles on a bun — pure bliss. #AprilFoolsDay #pickleburger #McDonalds

After the chain posted, they left a comment: “Available until yesterday.” Sure, it was clever, but oh was it heartbreaking.

But hey, nothing’s stopping you from either adding your own pickles (weird but doable) or from asking for extra pickles.

I have actually ordered this! Big Mac no meat, extra pickles and cheese because there is no veggie sandwich option

The joke brought about some serious conversation, though. For example, people want to know why they can’t actually get that many extra pickles!

@maccas look, I know the McPickle was an April Fool's joke. But I ask for extra pickles on every burger and I am lucky to get an extra pickle. Singular. So disappointing. I need the McPickle in my life. Make it happen! #mcpickle #mcdonalds

It’s clear that the chain is letting people down in big ways. One woman JUST wanted extra pickles, okay?

In the life of my pregnancy tonight: after traveling 6 hours home, all I wanted was “lots of extra” @McDonalds pickles. You had one job, man.😩😩😩 pic.twitter.com/XnN04R4MWI

Sometimes, even when you PAY for the pickles, you don’t get them. Not cool!

Obviously, pickle brands had to get involved in the uproar. Good social media tactic, right?

Hey @mcdonalds we don’t get the joke...🤔

But some people still find the idea of pickles totally gross:

The burns got pretty deep. McDonald’s just can’t seem to get it right with the pickles.

In the end, people love cracking McJokes against McDonald’s — even though they’ll be back soon enough for a fast food treat.

@McDonalds why you playing #meme #aprilfools #pickles pic.twitter.com/OG0ZNiyyut

McDonald’s, just do us all a favor and give us extra pickles.

The public has spoken!
