This Police Officer Believes His Taco Bell Burritos Contained Bleach

There’s something so special about Taco Bell. Not only is it one of the most notable taco chains out there, but even their strangest ideas (like their nacho fries) are wildly successful. The brand has carved out quite a good reputation, which is why it’s even more upsetting to learn that a Taco Bell in Florida might have served up some burritos with a side of bleach.

Bleach is a popular cleanser, but it’s not something you want to consume. After ordering four burritos through a drive-thru near the end of September, a sheriff’s deputy who goes by Deputy Brown started eating his food when he realized something tasted… off. According to Fox News, he consumed two of the burritos before heading out on a call. Curious, he smelled the wrappers and thought he could identify bleach. Also, after eating the burritos, Deputy Brown reportedly stated that his mouth felt “numb and tingly.”

It doesn’t seem like the wrappers have been tested, but the location in Lehigh Acres is currently under review. Fingers crossed that Taco Bell had nothing to do with his mysterious and scary symptoms.

It’s horrifying to realize something like this could happen to anyone. When we order food out, we have to trust that everything is cooked and served in a safe manner.

Taco Bell said to Fox News that they’re not brushing these allegations aside. “We take food safety very seriously and are deeply appreciative of the men and women who serve and protect our communities and our country,” they stated. “The franchisee that owns and operates this Lehigh Acres restaurant is cooperating with local authorities and investigating this matter.”

Just remember — if you’re eating food that tastes off, make sure to let someone know. Food safety is a big concern, and no fast food lunch is worth getting sick over.
