Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, this news is even more alarming. Okay, we’re just going to spit it out: McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches have been tied to multiple cases of food poisoning. That means that your daily Egg McMuffin may end up ruining your entire day. But, don’t panic just yet.
Delish reports that there have been at least 22 cases of food poisoning that have been linked to a single McDonald’s location in New York. Business Insider adds that each case experienced symptoms like vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea between a span of days. After each case was interviewed, it was found that 15 of the 22 had eaten a breakfast sandwich from the popular location, which is unfortunate.
The restaurant in question is the Jamestown, New York McDonald’s. So if you’re local, you might want to change things up and check out Burger King or Wendy’s until we have more answers.
The patrons experienced symptoms between the window of August 4th to August 21st. It wasn’t one type of breakfast sandwich in particular that caused the reaction.
“McDonald’s is fully cooperating with this investigation and is readily following all recommendations of the State and County Health Departments while this investigation continues,” the New York Department of Health said in a statement, per Business Insider.
McDonald’s did the right thing and shut down the Jamestown location to make sure it was properly cleaned. It’ll also be stocked with fresh ingredients, so that nobody else gets sick. The owner of the franchise noted that health and safety are important. He mentioned that he looks forward to reopening after removing everything that could be potentially harmful.
While it’s a good thing that the Jamestown location is taking all the right steps forward, it’s still a shame. Who knew that something like a McGriddle or a Sausage McMuffin could cause so much digestive grief? Fingers crossed that food poisoning doesn’t strike other locations.
