Ben & Jerry’s Released A Very Political Ice Cream, And Twitter Is Blowing Up

On Monday, October 29th, Ben & Jerry’s released an anti-Trump ice cream called “Pecan Resist,” and obviously, Twitter has some serious thoughts. The aim of the politically-charged pint is to peacefully resist the Trump administration’s negative actions and words pertaining to race, gender equality, climate change, and several other progressive ideas that affect lives across the United States.

By working with organizations Color of Change, Honor the Earth, Women’s March, and Neta, “Pecan Resist” is Ben & Jerry’s way of taking a stand against those who are responsible for our current tumultuous political climate. The company will also donate $25,000 to each of the above movements.

Ben & Jerry’s announced the arrival of their new flavor, which consists of chocolate ice cream, fudge chunks, pecans, walnuts, and fudge-covered almonds, via Instagram on Monday.

“We cannot be silent in the face of the President’s policies that attack and attempt to roll back decades of progress on racial and gender equity, climate change, LGBTQ rights, and refugee and immigrant rights — all issues that have been at the core of our social mission for 40 years,” the caption reads.

This flavor will only be available for a limited time via their online store and in participating Scoop Shops. But while it’s around, you bet people are going to express their opinions whether we want them to or not.

Of course, many on Twitter can’t believe Ben & Jerry’s would turn against them and their president. Womp womp.

Ben & Jerry’s (aka UNILEVER) is apparently making so much money that they decided to throw away ½ of their purchasers by becoming #HATERS.

Brilliant strategy.

Well you just lost a very good customer. I would buy several each week. Never again now that you decided to belittle the president. How does alienating half the country seemed like a good business idea?

This marks my last day of eating Ben&Jerrys Ice cream

Dear @Benandjerrys, Pecan Resist?? I am a @realDonaldTrump suporter that "truly loved" your ice cream. Even took time to visit the plant. Why alienate your customers? Go back to making Ice Cream and stay neutral. Sign me "a former customer". ☹️apologies accepted.

However, having backed progressive social movements in the past (Black Lives Matter, Rock the Vote, marriage equality), mixing up a resistance ice cream flavor only seems right.

Other fans are 100% on board with taking a stand via ice cream.

Yo. Someone just sent me ice cream. RESISTANCE ice cream. From @benandjerrys . #PecanResist. Money supports @ColorOfChange @womensmarch and more. By eating this ice cream, I am supporting democracy. Make democracy delicious. That’s how we win. pic.twitter.com/0cOFUCFC3M

Whether you’re okay with ice cream companies having a political opinion or not, the fact that Ben & Jerry’s has stepped up to the plate to speak their mind is extremely brave and respectable. We’ll certainly give Pecan Resist a try, because every scoop helps.
