Did you hear? Disneyland is opening their first brewery! Moms and Dads can rejoice (and enjoy the park a little more) with the opening of Los Angeles-based brewery Ballast Point in Downtown Disney.
So what can you expect from the new brewery?
Ballast Point Brewery is no stranger to Southern California, but the most magical place on earth will home the 7,300 square foot location which is projected to open before the end of 2018. Founded by Jack White, he dared himself, while in college, to make a better tasting beer than was offered at the local keg store. He and his roommate, Pete A’Hearn, began brewing in their UCLA apartment.
After outgrowing their original shop, they moved to Scripps Ranch (outside of San Diego) to continue their brewery production. They opened seven location across southern California including a restaurant in Long Beach, California 30 miles from Anaheim.
The Ballast Point menu boasts a collection of salads and small plates including their famous Baja fish tacos and house-made pretzels, but we’re sure the new Disneyland destination will have a few mouse-inspired items! President of the Brewery, Marty Birkel, told The OC Register, “Similar to Ballast Point’s brewing philosophy, the kitchen will source only the best local ingredients, including steroid- and antibiotic-free proteins, line-caught fish, and local produce when available.”
You may have noticed a fish theme to Ballast. The brewery specializes in IPAs named after their favorite pastime–fishing! The high-crafted beers are fan favorites, but Birkel tells The OC Register that customers won’t be able to see all the brewing in action. “The Downtown Disney facility isn’t equipped to make large amounts of beer. “We’ll make some stuff that’s exclusive to that outlet,” [Marty] Birkel (President) said. He added there are no plans to offer other brands of beer from the restaurant’s many taps.”
The best part? You don’t even need a ticket to Disney to visit! Ballast Point Brewery will be built in the Downtown Disney shopping district of Disneyland. Locals and tourists can visit Downtown Disney anytime of the year! Ballast Point will truly be the happiest brewery on earth.
