This Woman Banned Family Members From Her Wedding For Not Being Vegan

For some of us, eating a vegan diet is a cultural necessity. For others, it’s a way to support animal welfare. While it’s a hard lifestyle to maintain, especially with meat and eggs all around us, plenty do it with little effort. But still, it’s a choice — and a choice that many people opt not to take.

Unfortunately, those who actively lead the omnivore lifestyle are no longer welcome at the vegan wedding of one particular bridezilla. Reddit user Gelatin_MonKey7 posted an image screencapped from a vegan Facebook group. In the message, the bride-to-be said that she didn’t want to “host murderers” during her big day, so she had to uninvite several family members.

It sounds so ridiculous that it has to be fake, right? Unfortunately, some users managed to find a few Facebook posts from ex-bridesmaids that make it seem like this definitely happened. For the record, it’s not just eggs and meat that vegan diets ban — it’s everything that has come from an animal. Cheese, butter, and products that contain gelatin are all off the table. Most vegans also avoid honey, since bees are often exploited by humans when they make it.

By disinviting the non-vegans, this bride is not only cutting out family — she’s cutting her guest list down tremendously. Who knows if any guests will show up?

The image made quite a splash on Reddit. So much so that the thread had to be closed, in order to prevent more chaos.

Surely all omnivores don’t appreciate being called “murderers.” It’s interesting to try to figure out what this bride’s relationship with her family was like before the wedding planning began.

Much like me, a bunch of people doubted it was even real. That’s how insane of a request it is.

It’d even be hard to figure out how the bride would “test” them if they switched over to a vegan diet for the wedding. But even so, her attitude pretty much insinuates the relationship would be over if her family went back to their prior diets.

Other vegans spoke up to help ease the damage. In their eyes, it’s people like this bride who often give vegans and vegetarians a bad name.

Others felt like the family should rebel. Perhaps by planning an event outside of her wedding. Sure, they probably don’t want to add fuel to the fire, but at least they might be able to see the bride on her big day.

Still, one person sympathized. Reason being, it’s her wedding, so she should be able to control the guest list.

But it got crazier after a user named Lockraemono revealed that they were in the Facebook group where all of this drama unfolded. In it, the bridesmaids — who were uninvited — commented on the whole ordeal.

The bride responded a few times, trying to clear things up. Even though it’s true that she only invited vegans, she says she was attacked for her dietary preferences and felt like she’d at least get some people who understood after posting about it in the group.

In turn, one of the bridesmaids fired back that what she said was untrue. Instead, plenty of family members supported her decision and sent her vegan recipes. (Warning — this shot includes a bit of harsh language, so it’s not safe for work).

The fact that they already picked out their dresses is even more upsetting. It proves that the bride’s opinion on her guest list more or less changed overnight, and it’s possible that a few people have already spent money on the big day.

One of the screencaps revealed that the bride was only 20. On Reddit, a lot of people felt as if the story made a bit more sense. Even though 20-year-olds are legal adults, most of us didn’t make the greatest decisions back in those days.

Others wrote that they hoped she’d lift the ban. Otherwise, she may later live with the regret of cutting off her entire family.

The bride didn’t mean to go viral — in fact, she was looking for some support with her decision. Regardless of what actually happened behind the scenes, it’s fair to say that she might not be thinking this through.

If she really wanted to spread the word about veganism, wouldn’t serving delicious vegan food to her guests get the point across that there’s so much more to the lifestyle than salad? For example, you might not be able to tell that this sub is actually vegan, even though it uses chickpeas and a cheese substitute.

And perhaps your opinion on veganism might be altered if you went to the wedding and saw a taco bar. But not just any taco bar — a taco bar that included healthy and colorful vegan tacos.

It may not be too late for the bride to change her mind. People shouldn’t be judged by their food choices, nor be called a murderer for enjoying a cheeseburger on occasion.
