If you haven’t already marked your calendars and datebooks, February 16th is National Almond Day. To celebrate, the Almond Board of California is trying to manifest the almond emoji into creation by having fans petition the Unicode Consortium. Hey, if the peanut and the chestnut get their own emojis, then why can’t the almond? Amiright, people?
“The emoji trend is here and it’s here to stay,” the official Almond Emoji Petition states. “Emoji transcends language barriers, while increasing the richness of online communication. Why do avocado and taco lovers get their own emoji but almond lovers do not? Sign the petition below to show support for #AlmondEmoji. Then spread the word!”
All one must do to support the almond’s claim to emoji fame is add a first and last name, email address, and zip code to the petition. Your name will be sent to the Unicode Consortium — the emoji big wigs responsible for okaying all 2,823 emojis and counting — which tells them that you support the addition of an almond emoji into the Unicode Standard.
Sure, there are probably a few other emoji pitches out there that *may* be more culturally significant to emoji users. But, as Food & Wine points out, there are more U.S. farming acres dedicated to growing almonds than any other tree nut. So… keep that in mind.
Almonds are the tree nut highest in protein, fiber & calcium. Someone give them a round of applause and an #AlmondEmoji! 👏🏻 https://t.co/dfaS8Xr7xL pic.twitter.com/Zij2XjPEmX

So far, the Almond Board is winning people over with their almond emoji argument. Others out there want and need an almond emoji in 2019.

And it seems like people have actually been asking for an almond emoji for a while. Time’s ticking, Unicode Consortium!
Sign the petition. Your wish will be granted.
They need to make an almond emoji

Sorry, you won’t find it. But that could change soon.
*looks impatiently for almond emoji*

Honestly, people have been dying for an almond emoji for years. Since 2012, to be exact.
Speaking from previous experience, we can tell you that emojis are hot-button issues. Remember when the bagel emoji got cream cheese last year and everyone flipped?
And redheads finally got their emojis during the summer of 2018 after years (and years) of waiting. Hurrah!
NEW #EMOJI are coming this Fall that'll make redheads, cupcake-lovers & Australians VERY happy! 🤗

So, it’s unsurprising that some are in dire need for other emojis besides the almond. For example, an iced coffee emoji would be chill.
There’s actually an entire Twitter account and petition dedicated to getting the Unicode Consortium to add a haggis emoji. Fair enough, we suppose.
And there was actually another Change.org petition for the Consortium to add Prince’s love symbol to the library. Or should we say, the Artist Formerly Known as Prince?
We would be so pleased if a pterodactyl emoji was added. Unicode Consortium, you seeing this?
Um — this person wants a guillotine emoji? Like, we guess…?
Others are just really cut up about what could have been. RIP “OK smiley.”
If badgers can get an emoji, we think almonds might have it in the bag. No offense to badgers, of course.
Important: The badger is now an emoji 🦡

The submission to add the 🦡 to Unicode Consortium, gatekeeper of all things emoji, includes a hat tip to Wisconsin cc: @UWMadison @UWBadgers https://t.co/Ni6cJvgvfw pic.twitter.com/rHEY8Squcx
Sign the petition to bring the almond emoji to fruition. Wow, we like the sound of that.
