For some of us (like myself), the Super Bowl is less about football and more about the delicious food. Some people order pizza and wings, while others make yummy dips and dressings for the many chips and veggies on their table. And of course, we share our best attempts with our friends online.
That’s exactly what Fox News contributor Dana Perino did. Perino made queso and posted a picture of it on Twitter. And unfortunately, it… looks nothing like it should. Usually, the cheese sauce looks a bit yellow. Hers was on the red side. In fact, it somewhat resembled vegetable soup.
You know what happens when something weird is posted on the internet — people make it a meme. And that’s sadly what happened to Perino’s queso. In fact, it was so popular that people who simply googled “queso” were lead to a picture of Perino shortly after the tweet took place.
It’s unclear how her recipe failed so badly, but yes, something definitely went wrong. And the internet wasn’t afraid to let her know — some with kind thoughts like, “Oh Dana, no,” and others with photos of their own. Cheese lovers, you may want to shield your eyes at this photo, as it may change the dip for you forever.

There is absolutely nothing that looks appealing in that photo. Before the meme really got started, someone did another admirer a favor and added another popular meme on top of the dish — “Crying Jordan.”
But, the real meme was taking other photos and using the caption “I made queso.” Because maybe Perino didn’t really know what the dip was supposed to look like.

Or, this. Which is a big insult to Perino’s cooking abilities.

A Star Trek account joined in on the fun. It’s an appropriate photo, not gonna lie.

Even celebrities jumped on board. Mark Hoppus brought the infamous Fyre Festival sandwich back into viral rotation.
Patton Oswalt also had a submission. His is a bit more abstract.

Sad to say, but even this looks closer to queso than what Perino tweeted. Seriously, how did she get things so wrong?

Some argued that there may be more to the tweet that we don’t even realize. But Perino is a notoriously short tweeter.
Let her finish the sentence. "I made queso..." what? ...disgusting? ...suffer? ...wish it were never born?

Someone pointed out that nothing — not even the cigarettes — looked quite as bad as the actual dish itself. And that’s saying something.
none of the “I made queso” joke images look worse than her actual queso

A lot of people noted that it looks more like… digested queso, if you catch my drift. Once you see it, it’s hard to ignore.
So, how did Perino react? Well, she seemed a little embarrassed at first that her tweet was the talk of the Super Bowl.
At least tweets about my terrible queso are more entertaining than this game

A Photoshop account was inspired by her queso to create the following piece of art. Perino noted that she’ll be stocking up for sure.
Lol. Stock up. Thanks to @FiveFanPS https://t.co/PV2lOilIzt

Much like Perino said, a lot of people credit her mistake for bringing life to the Super Bowl. Many thought the game was a little dull this year, so her cheese sauce was good for something.
"i made queso" is tonight's unifying cultural event that the super bowl was supposed to be. thank you, dana perino

For the record, if you want to compare and contrast, here’s what normal queso looks like. It may help bring your appetite back.
And here’s one more to help clear your mind and remind you that Perino’s monstrosity was a rare occurrence. (Hey, at least she tried.)
Perino may be hearing about this goof for quite a long time. Even though she should always try to improve her skills, maybe she should stick to the jarred stuff for her next party.
