IHOP Revealed What The “b” Stands For In IHOb, And It’s Not What Anyone Was Expecting

ihop name

Food fans were anticipating June 11th for a very special reason — it’s the day that the restaurant formerly known as IHOP would reveal why they’ve decided to change names to IHOb. Yes, with a lowercase b. The popular chain, once known for serving up pancakes and a dish delightful enough to be called the Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘N Fruity, figured they needed to rebrand themselves a little bit. Today they announced that the “b” doesn’t stand for breakfast, bacon, or bananas, as companies like Chiquita initially hoped. Instead, it stands for burgers.

You read that right. International House of Pancakes will now be International House of burgers. It’s a strange switch-up, especially since now they’ve got a lot of competition. How will their burger compare next to popular choices like Red Robin, Five Guys, Shake  Shack, and In-N-Out? And why is the “b” lower-case?

It’s important to remember that while the old IHOP specialized in pancakes, they’ve always served other selections for lunch and dinner. And yes, that included beef. “Our new burgers are so good, we changed our name,” their website states. “That’s right. We’re the International House of Burgers now. Our new Ultimate Steakburgers, made with All-Natural, 100% USDA Choice Black Angus Beef, are un-burgerin’-believable.”

They’ll still offer up breakfast, but it doesn’t seem to be as big of a focus as it once was.

As of now, they’ve switched up their logo on their website and Instagram. As for Twitter, it looks like they abandoned their initial account in favor of @IHOb, with their old bio stating “Hey ya Pancakes. Don’t follow us here. We’re  now.”

Their new bio is pretty burger-focused, stating “Burgers so burgerin’ good, we changed our name to IHOb. For burgers.” So, it looks like the lowercase “b” is here to stay, and they’re making sure to use the word “burger” as many ways as they possibly can to get the point across.

Next time you want to grab a burger, you might want  to check out the IHOb menu and see if it’s worth the name change!
