When you were a kid, there was probably that one food you just couldn’t stand. And by one, I mean like, eight. And by food, I mean vegetables. Obviously. While everyone knows it’s important to eat your greens, one kid from Halifax, Canada called 9-1-1 twice because he was so offended over the salad he was given. It’s not good to clog up an emergency line for something that’s not an emergency, but come on — that’s pretty hilarious.
Here’s what happened. The boy, who’s 12, first called to complain about the salad he was given on Tuesday, June 12th, right before 10 p.m. The call was taken by Halifax RCMP, who heard about his dislike for the salad he was given. While they were on the way over to his house to try to teach him a lesson, he called the line a second time to reiterate how bad the salad was, wondering what was taking the authorities so long to get there. Yes, this is real.
Typically, a false call to 911 in Halifax costs a pretty penny — $697.50, to be exact. But the boy won’t be fined, especially since he learned a big lesson about misusing the system.
The Halifax RCMP told CBC News that this wasn’t the first inappropriate call they’ve gotten, nor will it be the last. In the past, they’ve gotten calls about missing television remotes. They even got a call about how someone wasn’t happy with their donair, which is a Canadian meaty treat unique to Halifax that’s often served in pizzerias, much like subs.
“It’s not just children that misuse 911, we see a lot of adults that use 911…when they shouldn’t be,” RCMP Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said to CBC.
Unfortunately, Hutchinson had no information on what was so terrible about the salad. Was it light on toppings? Did it include questionable vegetables, like mushrooms? There are plenty of different salads out there, so hopefully, he can find a less offensive way to enjoy his veggies in the near future.
