Good news for all of you who’ve been longing for a new flavor of Krispy Kreme. The donut brand, which has been there for us in times of both sadness and celebration, will be unveiling two brand new flavors — and they’re pretty similar to other desserts you crave.
Both new flavors include yummy filling. The first is called Strawberries & Kreme, which tastes very much like a fresh strawberry shortcake. The second is a real winner for the banana fans among us —Banana Pudding. Not only is it filled with banana-flavored custard, but it’s topped with Nilla wafers. It’s a genius pairing that also serves as a childhood throwback.
Now for some bad news. The donuts are only available for a limited time, and only select shops carry them. While Krispy Kreme hasn’t stated it themselves, it’s pretty safe to assume that these two new arrivals will only be sticking around until the end of summer. Especially since the first day of summer was June 21st, right around the time they were first announced.
The season ends on September 21st, so hopefully these donuts will be around at least until you have to start worrying about back-to-school shopping.
“So much of summer is about fun-filled, carefree moments. Our new Strawberries & Kreme and Banana Pudding doughnuts were inspired by classic summer desserts and will make those moments with family and friends even more tasty and fun,” said Jackie Woodward, Chief Marketing Officer of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, according to Business Wire.
That’s not the only news Krispy Kreme has to announce — they’re also bringing back the Freedom Ring donut on June 25th, which is the perfect way to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Have stale donuts lying around? Not sure what to do with them? We recommend that you use them to create…a pie crust!
Ingredients:
4 stale donuts, glazed or old-fashioned
A quarter stick of unsalted butter
You’ll need:
A pie shell
A food processor, or a fork
Instructions:
1. Either throw the donuts into a food processor, or mash the donuts with a fork until you have a very crumby, fine texture.
2. Microwave the butter, mix it in with the donut crumbs.
3. Mash the mixture into the pie shell, and either bake for 10 minutes at 350ºF, or freeze for one hour.
Voilà!
