Martha Stewart’s Lobster Boiling Hack Is Just Downright Terrifying
We all aspire to Martha Stewart’s level of culinary skills. She’s simply one of the best, and we take every opportunity we can to learn her ways. So when Stewart made a Facebook Live cooking video with Jennifer Garner, we were positively over the moon. Together, they made upgraded BLTs by creating Bacon-Lobster-Tomato sandwiches. And of course, Stewart dropped plenty of culinary wisdom along the way. Including a lobster boiling hack that’s somewhat terrifying.
While Stewart was showing Garner how to properly crack open a lobster claw, a fan asked how long she typically boils her lobster. Not only did Stewart share the amount of time, but she also shared a slightly twisted lobster boiling hack: She gives her lobsters some booze while cooking them. Say what?!
“I boil mine for about 15 minutes,” Stewart said. “I put them in boiling water with vodka or tequila. I give them a drink.”
Yes, you read that correctly. Martha Stewart’s lobster boiling hack is to give the crustacean a shot of liquor. Naturally, Garner asked why. And Stewart’s answer actually makes a lot of sense. “Well, if you were going to be boiled alive, wouldn’t you like to have a drink first?” she joked. “I’m humane. About a half a cup of vodka to the pot of water.” Point taken.

If you’ve ever ordered a full lobster, or even just a lobster tail or claw, it can be a very intimidating food to eat if you don’t know what you’re doing. So Stewart also showed Garner how to break down a lobster once it’s boiled and ready to eat — something she recommends doing while it’s still hot, right after it comes out of the pot.
