This Mom Is Blaming Flaming Hot Cheetos For Her Daughter’s Emergency Surgery

When talking about intense snacks, Flaming Hot Cheetos are always on the list. The fact that they’re red instead of the typical “Cheetos orange” should be an indicator that they shouldn’t be messed with. Still, one mom is lashing out at the popular snack for making her daughter ill.

Rene Craighead has a 17-year-old daughter of the same name, which (side note) is pretty inspiring. The uninspiring part of it is that the younger Rene had to undergo emergency surgery to have her gallbladder removed, in part due to powerful snacks like Flaming Hot Cheetos and Takis, another snack known for its intensity.

“She loves them,” her mother said to WREG-TV. “Every time I go out she says, ‘Bring me back some Hot Takis, bring me back some Hot Chips’…I want to make her happy, so I brought them back.”

According to her mother, Rene often brought big bags of them into school with her. But even though they might have caused a lot of problems, doctors are saying that the gallbladder removal was likely due to an unhealthy diet overall.

So for the love of Chester Cheetah, remember that before you toss your Hot Cheetos away.

Takis spoke out about the story, saying that their food is safe — but that everyone should practice eating in moderation. “Takis ingredients fully comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations, and all of the ingredients in each flavor are listed in detail on the label. Always check the serving size before snacking,” they said, per WREG.

So, that means that maybe you shouldn’t eat big bags of the stuff on a daily basis. People reports Rene’s intake as around four bags per week.

Moral of the story? Hot Cheetos and Takis are great for a spicy snack, but if you overdo it, you might suffer from some pretty severe consequences. Swapping out spicy snacks with healthy snacks like fruit and veggies will do your body good.
