If you were to ask me what my favorite snack in the world would be, it’d be Doritos, hands down. While I’m a chip fan in general, there’s something about Doritos in two of their most natural forms (Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch) that remind me of childhood. We didn’t have junk food in the house that often, but when we did, it was to celebrate — and Doritos always made an appearance. So, it makes a lot of sense that I’d have an interest in any new member of the Doritos family. It is, after all, very important to make sure every new flavor properly represents the brand, and that includes Rainbow Doritos.
Lucky for us, noted Instagram Food Blogger Markie Devo got a chance to sample them and said that they taste like a lime chip, which makes me think of lime Tostitos, another party favorite. But they also have notes of a citrus fruit, like a grapefruit. Interesting…
Rainbow Doritos are pretty much like a party in a bag.
Unfortunately, the new flavor is only available in Mexico as of right now. Which is a shame for everyone else, as they’d really brighten up our Instagram feeds. They’re called Rainbow Doritos, and as expected, they’re not your standard yellow or orange color. At least, all of them aren’t.
“These are very unusual/flavorful, they give you a nice tangy/sour vibe,” he wrote on Instagram. “I love them!!”
It’s kind of nice for Doritos to mix things up and offer a flavor like no other. Especially when “rainbow” immediately makes you think something would be on the sweet side. They could have taken the easy way out and made a standard nacho chip in a different color, but they didn’t — and that’s commendable.
This actually isn’t the first time that Doritos has offered a product like this. Back in 2015, they created Rainbow Doritos to celebrate LGBT rights. Fans could only snag a bag with a donation to the It Gets Better campaign. The bag looked a little different, so it’s unclear if the taste was the same as it is today.
If Rainbow Doritos ever made their way to America, either in their new form or old, I’d throw my own summer party around their arrival.
Are fruit and veggie chips more your speed? We created four different versions of the healthy chips (and they’re actually delicious).
