Butterfinger Changed Its Recipe In A Major Way, But The Good News Is That You’ll Like It Better

Has the Butterfinger become a bougie version of its former self? According to its new parent company, Ferrero, the classic candy bar has been “taken up a notch.” Now boasting a new and improved recipe, the 2019 Butterfinger is something you’re going to want to get your hands on ASAP.

After being under the wing of Nestle since 1990, Butterfinger was bought by Ferrero, an American candy company owned by Luxembourg’s Ferrero, earlier this year. As Ferrero’s Marketing Senior Director, Kristen Mandel, told Food & Wine, “the Ferraro philosophy is that quality always wins.” So, with that being said, Butterfinger needed an upgrade.

“We started with the key ingredients — peanuts, cocoa, and milk — behind this bar that people are obsessed with and love, and looked at how we could make it even better,” Mandel told Food & Wine. Now, Butterfinger’s classic, crunchy peanuts are U.S.-grown jumbo peanuts which allow for a more “uniform and well-rounded roast,” Mandel said.

The cocoa in the chocolate coating is now a higher-quality cocoa, and the coating itself contains a bit more milk. This makes it smoother, less gritty, and gives off a more chocolate-y flavor.

Food & Wine reports that all of the above improvements have really paid off. The site reports the new Butterfinger is “less waxy” and “more cocoa forward.” Overall, the bar has a more natural flavor.

The improved Butterfinger is set to hit shelves in January and February 2019. Like the bar itself, the packaging has had some work done. Customers will notice a brighter yellow color backlighting the classic Butterfinger illustration. Plus, it’s now double-wrapped, which should better preserve that butter-y, yummy flavor.

For those afraid of change, we totally get it.

Listen, change is hard!

However, those who have tried Butterfinger 2.0 have really liked it and agree that it’s a better candy bar.

TBH, we’re pretty stoked and fully embrace the change.

We just hope the new Butterfingers will still have that stuck-in-your-mouth-all-day charm.

You bet we’ll grab ourselves a couple bars once the new Butterfinger debuts. It’s hard to improve on perfection — but after reading reviews, Ferrera might have done just that.
