Hi, is this 911? We’d like to report an emergency. A disturbing video of a woman tampering with a tub of ice cream has gone viral, and we honestly may never purchase ice cream from the grocery store again. The 9-second video shows a woman in the freezer aisle of a grocery store. She removes a lid off a tub of Blue Bell ice cream, licks the contents, and then puts the tub back in the freezer.
The video was posted on June 29th by Twitter user “Optimus Primal,” who captioned the post, “What kinda psychopathic behavior is this?!” Good question, kind sir. Good question.
Since being posted on Twitter, the video has been viewed over 10.5 million times and has received just under 24,000 retweets. People are demanding that the woman be identified so she can face the proper repercussions. The saving grace of this viral video is that the issue was brought to the attention of Blue Bell Creameries, who released a statement per USA Today.
“This type of incident will not be tolerated,” the company said, assuring customers that those in charge are “monitoring the situation.”
Many Twitter users are now wondering why Blue Bell Creameries doesn’t seal the tops of their ice cream tubs with plastic, as many other ice cream brands do.
“During production, our half gallons are flipped upside down and sent to a hardening room where the ice cream freezes to the lid creating a natural seal,” the company said. “The lids are frozen tightly to the carton.”
“Any attempt at opening the product should be noticeable,” Blue Bell concluded.
Hello! We want to thank our consumers for alerting us to the recent food tampering incident. We take this issue very seriously and are currently working with the appropriate authorities. For more information, please click here https://t.co/bs2Uaq6BiR

Now we understand why unnecessarily-difficult-to-open packaging exists. We get it.
Rival company Häagen-Dasz decided this was the perfect time to hit Blue Bell with this low blow. Oof.
Our Ice cream cartons do contain a safety seal.

People are justifiably upset. A social media campaign to identify the woman in the video has begun.
Some on Twitter have reported that they know who she is and where she lives. However, to avoid spreading false information, we’ll refrain from sharing her possible identity.
If this video is brought to the police, the woman in question could be facing a felony charge. That is, if this video wasn’t a prank.
Assuming this isn't just shot for reactions, and she really put the ice cream back for someone else to buy - it should be a felony.

And honestly, let’s hope that she actually bought the ice cream and posted the video just for views. Otherwise, she could be putting someone at major risk.
Like… major risk. Yikes.
However, even if she’s not charged, but is positively identified, the internet is not going to let her get away with this. Sorry, but you brought this on yourself, girl.
I genuinely hope the whole internet gives her shit. This is disgusting.

You messed with Blue Bell ice cream and you put someone at risk for illness? Not okay.
Who told you that this was okay? No one. No one did and we know it.
And if this video was staged, it really wasn’t a funny joke at all. There’s nothing amusing about people unknowingly consuming someone else’s bodily fluids.
We’re only grabbing cartons from the back of the fridge from now on. Mom was right.
Wow… It looks like our trust issues just got a lot worse.
If you know who this woman is, we highly recommend you report her to the local authorities. This act is not only disgusting, but it’s actually really dangerous.
